Stuff the Bus Food Drive underway
to benefit M.I. Lewis Food Pantry

For the next two weeks, Nov. 1-12, Dickinson ISD students and staff will be participating in the annual Stuff the Bus Food Drive to benefit the M.I. Lewis Food Pantry. DISD has been hosting this food drive for many years to benefit the food pantry, which serves families throughout the Dickinson ISD boundaries.

This year, in addition to non-perishable food items, monetary donations will be accepted. Through a relationship with the Houston Food Bank, M.I. Lewis is able to purchase $10 worth of food for only $1. They can also use monetary donations to purchase perishable food items throughout the year.

Non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be accepted at DISD campuses through Nov. 12. For a list of needed non-perishable food items, click here to view the Stuff the Bus flyer. District administrators and students in the PALS program at Dickinson High School will travel on school buses throughout the district on the morning of Nov. 15 to collect the food donations.

About M.I. Lewis Food Pantry...
The food pantry serves families throughout DISD boundaries with emergency assistance, food, clothes, programs and workshops on financial responsibility, and referrals to agencies or programs offering job training, literacy or other assistance. In 2009, the M.I. Lewis Food Pantry saw more than 8,000 individuals, representing 25,000 family members.
DHS plans College Night Nov. 2

More than 40 different colleges and military representatives will be available at Dickinson High School from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 for students and parents to visit with, ask questions and pick up brochures and other information.

The College Night event, which is open to the public, will be set up in the mall area near the DHS front entrance.
Dedication Ceremony and Open House
Nov. 3 for new Barry Lussier Field House

The community is invited to a dedication ceremony and open house at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 for the new Barry Lussier Field House on the Dickinson High School campus. The new field house was finished earlier this year while work has continued throughout the year on the Walk of Honor, a covered walkway connecting the Field House to DHS. A short ceremony followed by tours of the facility will be offered.

The new facility features a large foyer and reception area, a weight room overlooking Sam Vitanza Stadium, an athletic training area, locker rooms, classroom and office space as well as storage areas.
Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend

Remember to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night, Nov. 6 as Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
