Gator Homecoming Week is here
Parade and pep rally set for Wednesday, game and crowning of queen set for Friday
Gator Homecoming Week is here for Dickinson High School and the community as several activities are planned this week to celebrate the annual festivities.
Highlighting the week will be the community parade and pep rally on Wednesday, Sept. 22, the carnival for DHS students during lunch periods on Thursday, Sept 23, the football game on Friday, Sept. 24 and finally the student Homecoming dance on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The parade lineup will start at 4:45 p.m. Sept 22 at the shopping center parking lot at FM 517 and 1266. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and travel east on FM 517, turn left in front of DHS on Baker Drive and end at Sam Vitanza Stadium. A community-wide pep rally and crowning of the Homecoming King is planned immediately following the parade in the stadium. Community organizations, churches, other DISD campuses, as well as DHS groups will all be participating in the parade. Floats are invited to have some of their participants walk alongside the float to hand out candy.
The football game is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Sam Vitanza Stadium against Clear Creek High School. The crowning of the Homecoming queen will take place shortly before the start of the game around 6:40 p.m. |
Student Holiday Friday, Sept. 24
Just a reminder to parents that this Friday, Sept. 24 is a Staff Development Day for DISD teachers so there is no school for students that day. |
CHAMPS reading program always
looking for extra volunteers
For 21 years, Dickinson ISD students needing extra help with reading have been participating in the district's CHAMPS Program (Community Helpters Accelerate Many Promising Students).
The program offers one-one-one mentoring to elementary students needing extra assistance with reading. Community members, parents, grandparents and more volunteer one hour a week at one of the six Dickinson ISD elementary campuses to listen to a first through fourth grade student read a book of his or her choice. CHAMPS volunteers are free to volunteer at the school of his or her choice.
If you are interested in volunteering for this program for as little as one hour per week, contact Kathy Rossacci at krossacci@dickinsonisd.org or leave her a message at 281-229-7423. |
"Shine Your Smile Day" coming to McAdams
McAdams Junior High will be hosting the Smile Programs mobile dentists on Dec. 3.
Smile Programs will set up a mini-dental office in the school and can provide dental examinations, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants (if needed). Where exams reveal decay, the dentists, with a student's parental consent, will provide fillings, pulpotomies, stainless steel crowns and simple extractions where clinically indicated.
Smile Programs can provide preventative services to the children of the families who need financial assistance and it has subsidized fees for those who choose to pay for the preventative care. No child is ever turned away from Smile Programs because of financial need.
Parents who would like their McAdams student to participate in the program should watch for a permission slip coming home in the next week. Permission slips are due back to the school by Oct. 8. |
