A Note From Mrs. Brown
September 24, 2012
"There are three types of workers: those who get things done, those who watch things get done, and those who wonder how so much got done."
Anonymous
Dear ECC Families,
This is the message that I shared with our students this week. It is a universal truth that I want our children to think about and ponder and ask themselves; where do I fit in on this spectrum? I was sparked to share this due to the overwhelming feeling I experience each and every September, the feeling of gratitude. I can't say it adequately or to enough of you, thank you. Thank you for sharing your children with us, for trusting us, for volunteering countless hours, for organizing and planning things, for being on time, for smiling and saying hello, for digging into your pocket and donating, for co-teaching, for being kind. It is ALL of you, you know who you are, who come here to be a part of the greater good. In my mind, the majority of ECC parents are doers and I sometimes feel like I am the one watching and wondering how you did it all!
See you at the Spirit Assembly!
Carrie Brown

News From Dr. Reeve
September 27, 2012
Drop Off Volunteers
We still could use a couple of more parent volunteers to help with the Safety Patrol before and after school. If you are interested in helping, please contact James Patterson in the school office or email him at zkjp@mac.com.
Crosswalks
For the safety of all ECC students and parents using the crosswalks, all automobile drivers must come to a complete stop at the crosswalks at the intersection of Paseo Aliso and Via Adelfa. The staff member at this intersection is not allowed to cross students. Also, automobiles exiting the school parking lot on to Paseo Tulipero should not stop in the crosswalk waiting to exit the parking lot.
Lunch and the Scrap Cart
Just a reminder that the new "scrap cart" is now being used at lunch times to separate trash from recycle items. We've notice a lot unopened store bought items and homemade uneaten food items being thrown in the trash. We are not allowed to "recycle" food items due to health and sanitation issues. Have a discussion with your students about if they're satisfied with their lunches or if they're throwing uneaten items. This just might save families money on lunches!

PTA News & Events
Reflections Contest Happening NOW!
The deadline for the PTA Reflections Arts Contest is Oct. 12. All ECC students are encouraged to participate. Reflections is a national arts achievement and recognition program. This year's theme is The Magic of a Moment. Students may submit works relating to the theme in six different categories: dance choreography, musical composition, visual arts photography, literature, and video production. Student artwork will be displayed at a reception held at ECC on Nov. 14, 2012, in the evening. Please review the program guidelines on the ECC PTA website for more information or contact Angela DeLuca.
Support Your Children's Education
The education of all our children is supported by two equally important organizations: The ECC PTA and the ECC Fund. The PTA supports our programs (Arts Attack, Garden Science, Robotics, Variety Show, Spelling Bee, etc.). The ECC Fund supports people (Science Consultant: Mrs. Lester, Music Consultant: Miss Eng, Technology Consultant: Mrs. Weingarten, Media Center Consultant: Mrs. Hee, etc.) The deadline for both drives is tomorrow, Friday Sept. 28.
To join the PTA, visit the PTA website to download a Membership Form or donate directly on-line. Contact Katrina Young with general questions about the PTA or Cyndi Stanford with specific questions about PTA Membership.
To donate to the ECC Fund, click here to donate directly on-line or click here to download a Donation Form. Contact Lynda Wennerstrom with questions about the ECC Fund.
ECC PTA Membership
The ECC PTA would like to thank the 350 parents and teachers who have joined the PTA. Currently 58% of our families have joined the ECC PTA. This involvement directly translates into the quality of our children's educational experience at ECC. Please click here for a visual graph of the current PTA membership and pledge to make up the difference in your classroom.
Additionally, many companies are equally invested in your child's education. Click here to see if your company participates in a company matching gift program and click here for a list of a few of the local companies that have already donated to our PTA.
Important Education Propositions On The Ballot
Prop 38 and Prop 30 are the two initiatives on the Nov. 6, 2012 ballot that have the potential to greatly increase the revenue for our schools. Please take the time to educate yourself on these propositions. The Encinitas Union School District supports the passage of both Prop 38 and Prop 30.
*Prop 38: To learn more about Proposition 38 (Also known as "Our Children Our Future: Local Schools and Early Education Investment Act" or "The Molly Munger Initiative") go to www.prop38forlocalschools.org and be sure to visit the benefits calculator to find out how much our school would receive if Prop 38 passes.
*Prop 30: To learn more about Proposition 30 (Also known as "The School and Local Public Safety Protection Act" or "The Governor Jerry Brown Initiative" go to www.yesonprop30.com.
*Comparison Matrix: Please visit www.educateourstate.org for information on both initiatives. Click here to view a matrix they have created to compare/contrast the two propositions.
Green Bag Fundraiser
Did you know that Californians throw away enough plastic bags to circle the planet more than 250 times! By popular demand ECC's PTA is bringing back the environmentally friendly "Green Products" fundraiser. Between October 1-5, look for the Green Bags Team to display products on campus that your child may volunteer to sell to friends and family. Order forms may also be turned in during that time. For more information on these green products and fundraiser click here or ask Kelly Sawyer any questions you might have.
Get In Gear For The ECC Bike Rodeo
Immediately after school (1:00PM) on Friday, Oct. 12, ECC will offer a hands-on learning clinic to provide students with the skills they need to become better cyclists and avoid bicycling accidents and injuries. Professionals from El Camino Bike Shop and the Encinitas Sheriff's Station will be providing bike safety instruction and demonstrations. Participants will have the chance to learn and practice their skills in a fun, non-competitive environment. Click here for the informational flyer and consent form.

Get ready to join in SANDAG iCommunte's Walk, Ride, and Roll to school challenge happening the week of Oct. 1 - 5, 2012!
