Worried about the Stock Market & Safety?  Ready to Beat CD Rates?  Try Annuities!

Long considered a CD alternative, annuities have become very popular today. Paying higher rates than CD's and deferring taxes, many people on a fixed income find annuities are a better option than tying up money in CD's or letting it languish in a money market account...

Like a CD, you can place lump sums of money in annuities. Typically, you should leave money in the annuity for a period of years. The longer you leave the money in, the higher your interest rate can be. Depending on the annuity purchased, a yearly amount is allowed to be withdrawn without a penalty. This amount can be your interest, up to 10% of your initial deposit or the account value, depending on the carrier.

Is an Annuity right for me?

In the past, annuities were considered investments for people nearing retirement.  But today, annuities can be smart investments for people of all ages.  Remember, an annuity can be invested in a variety of different asset classes, offering everything from a fixed interest rate to growth based on the capital appreciation of various indexes.  The following are good uses for annuities:

- You need a higher interest-rate alternative to Certificates of Deposit (CD's) and money market funds.

- You want to make your long-term savings grow faster without current taxation.

- You need to save more for retirement, but you have "maxed out" your IRA, 401(k) or 403(b).

- You need to roll over (reinvest) existing tax-deferred savings, like retirement plans.

- You need to guarantee yourself an income for the rest of your life.

An annuity is more apt to provide liquidity when you need it than a CD because of the above mentioned withdrawal privileges and the annuitization options that exist on most contracts.

For Better Health

Natural Ways to Fight Swine Flu:

Oscillococcinum:  This is an over-the-counter homeopathic remedy when taken at the first sign of symptoms, can reduce both the duration and severity of flu.  Important: Works only when taken within one to three days of symptom onset.  Dose: One vial of pellets under the tongue, three times daily, for no more than three days.

Chinese Herbal Formulas:  These products typically contain six to 10 different ingredients, including herbs such as honeysuckle, forsythia, isatis and andrographis.  Some of the components have antiviral effects, others increase immunity and others addres specific symptoms such as congestion or fever.  Important: Use only formulations that have been produced in the U.S., which has the highest quality-control standards.  One good brand is Wellness Formula, made by Source Naturals.  Dose: Follow the label instructions.

Echinacea:  Echinacea appears to be most effective when combined with other herbs that strengthen immunity and relieve upper-respiratory infections.  Caution: Don't take echinacea if you have an autoimmune disorder, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.  DoseFollow label directions.

Inhalation Therapy:  One of the fastest ways to relieve symptoms of colds and flu, inhalation therapy can also help prevent illness because it kills viruses in the upper respiratory tract.  When you're in a crowded place, such as an airplane, take several deep sniffs from a bottle of essential oil such as tea tree oil.  Do this every one to two hours.  For symptom relief:  Pour boiling water into a bowl, add a few drops of tea tree oil.  Drape a towel around your head, lean forward, close your eyes and take breathe in the steam.

Medicinal Mushrooms:  Medicinal mushrooms, including shiitake, maitake and reishi are extremely powerful immune stimulants.  Dose: Eat one or more of these mushroom varieties a few times a week throughout the col and flu season.  Or take a supplement that includes a mushroom blend, such as New Chapter Host Defense.

Vitamin C and Zinc:  Vitamin C has been shown to be somewhat effective at preventing and treating upper-respiratory infections.  Zinc lozenges often are used to reduce symptoms, including cough, nasal discharge and sore throat.  Dose: Up to three zinc lozenges daily for three or four days.  For vitamin C, a typical dose is 1,000 mg daily, divided into two to three doses to avoid stomach upset. Follow the label instructions.
