Did you know that...

...turkey doesn't make you sleepy?  It contains tryptophan, an amino acid that can have a mildly sedating effect, but not enough to make you sleepy.  Chicken and cheese have more tryptophan than turkey.

Greetings!  Welcome to the latest edition of our monthly newsletter.   November is "Long Term Care Awareness Month" so I wanted to share some experiences with you relating to caring for elderly relatives and insuring the financial security of other family members.

Please feel free to forward this newsletter to your family, friends and co-workers.

Wishing you and your family a happy Thanksgiving!
Long Term Care (Own Your Future)

For a number of years, my mother and uncle were responsible for the care for their parents (my grandparents). Although I was not present every day during this period, I was aware of many challenges that existed relating to my grandparent's personal care.To name a few, finding competent visiting nurses, paying monthly utility and medical bills, shuttling my grandparents to the grocery store, doctors, and pharmacies on a regular basis, and more. Because my grandparents did not have long term care insurance, approximately $2,000 to $3,000 per month was spent on nursing care for my grandfather who suffered from Alzheimer's.

Over the past year, I also learned that two family members have digestive diseases, with one case leading to undiagnosed Osteoporosis. Realizing that one's health is not guaranteed, I've been able to implement a long term care insurance program for myself, my wife and other family members to ensure that we will not encounter the same scenario experienced by my parents and so many others charged with the task of caring for elderly or sickly relatives.

Long term care may be one of the biggest threats to your standard of living and your assets. In fact, New Jersey state officials, concerned about the future of the state's retirees, are actively encouraging residents to plan ahead for long term care. The U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services, as well as Governor Corzine, want you to "Own Your Future" by becoming educated about long term care and it's related insurance offerings. For a FREE copy of an informational long term care planning kit which provides information about practical steps you can take to plan ahead for your long term care needs, call 866-752-6582 or check out www.longtermcare.gov.

For Better Health...

The backyard herb elderberry has been used as a folk remedy for flu, colds, and coughs since ancient times. More recently, results of a study saw flu sufferers recover in record time. The researchers found that elderberry literally disarmed the flu virus-so it's unable to penetrate cell walls. Those who took elderberry were also found to have higher levels of flu-fighting antibodies, indicating a stronger immune system and less chance of getting the flu in the first place.

Broccoli sprouts fight common stomach ailments.  The sprouts have a high concentration of sulforaphane, a sulfur compound that is thought to trigger beneficial stomach enzymes.  People infected with Helicobacter pylori bacteria-which cause gastritis and ulcers and may increase the risk for stomach cancer-showed lower levels of bacteria after eating 2.5 ounces of broccoli sprouts daily for eight weeks.

Study by researchers at Tokyo University of Science, published in Cancer Prevention Research.
