Deacon Lew proposes new plan to support our food donations.

Many people tell me that it is hard to remember to bring their food donation on Food Sunday. So, in a continuing effort to alleviate hunger here in Vero Beach, I would like to try a new tactic to increase our level of help to The Salvation Army and those in need whom they serve.

Instead of waiting for a specific date, let's try bringing a donation each week - and each week, I will make a suggestion based on what is being promoted at the larger stores. We will still recognize "Food Sunday" as the weekend of the collection by The Salvation Army, though. Please let me know if this makes sense to you - call me or email me with your thoughts.

This week, Publix is promoting Peter Pan Peanut Butter - big 40 oz. jar, TWO for $7.89.

Winn Dixie is selling TWO cans of veggies for only $1!

Food stores always have something good on sale, so whether it is pasta or cereal or canned beans, if we bring ONE thing each week, we'll develop a habit of thinking of others when we think of ourselves. The Salvation Army thanks you, and so do I! (Contributed by Deacon Lew Gwyn)

Space CoastSpace Coast Symphony appears Sunday, July 22 at 3:00 PM.

The next concert by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra features Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony,  Mozart's Overture to the Marriage of Figaro and Henri Tomasi's Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra.

In just four minutes, the bustling Overture to The Marriage of Figaro sets the stage for the sophisticated and witty opera that is to follow.

Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony helped launch his career, few romantic works tug at the audience's heartstrings more than this work.

Tickets are $20 and  will be available at the door, by calling Space Coast at 855-252-7276 or online at www.spacecoastsymphony.org. Under the SCSO's Symphony for Everyone program, those not able to pay $20, are welcome to come and pay what they can.
