This Thursday, May 17th, is Ascension Day.
On this day, we remember and reflect on Jesus' rising from this earth, to go into heaven to sit at the right hand of God, after forty days of appearing to many people as the Risen Christ.
Visit for a moment page 335 of the Book of Common Prayer - you will find these words in the Eucharistic Prayer:
"... having in remembrance his blessed passion [Good Friday] and precious death [the Crucifixion], his mighty resurrection [Easter morning] and glorious ascension [Ascension day]...."
We are believers in these facts.
In the Nicene Creed, we proclaim our belief that "On the third day he rose again . . he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father."
Ascension day is key to our faith as Christians, and indeed is one of the more important feasts in our Church year. It is especially noteworthy as it marks the last day of the period following Easter that Jesus was here on this earth, appearing to His disciples.
Please consider joining us this Thursday at 10:00 o'clock in the Lord Chapel as we commemorate this special day!
