PSALM 19

Psalm 19 (appointed for this Sunday) is attributed to King David, and many consider it the greatest of all the psalms. It consists of three sections:

(1) verses 1-7 express the glory of God, as proclaimed by the heavens themselves; although without speech, the message of God's grandeur in nature is unlimited and as illuminating as the brightness of the sun;

(2) verses 7- 11, the psalmist rejoices at God's revelation through the gift of the Law, through which we are revealed as God's children. The Law of God serves to inspire, nurture, reward, and educate us through its clarity and enduring wisdom;

(3) verses 12 - 14 are a prayer of David to God, in which he asks forgiveness for his sins, both deliberate ("presumptuous") and thoughtless ("secret"). Verse 14 is one of the most familiar and beloved in all the psalms, and is the conclusion of the Amidah, the primary daily prayer in Judaism.

Portions of Psalm 19 are quoted in Paul's Letter to the Romans, and it has been set to music by no less than J. S. Bach, Haydn, and Beethoven. Moreover, it was C. S. Lewis' favorite psalm: "I take this to be the greatest poem in the Psalter and one of the greatest lyrics in the world."

WITH MUSIC IN MIND

Regular rehearsals of the Trinity Episcopal Choir are on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Music Building. The Trinity Choir always welcomes new members.

The Trinity Handbell Choir is in need of additional members.  We need to add two new members in order to ring two-octave music.  But we have room for many more - and many more bells - four octaves!  In order to ring three-octave music, we would need to add six new members; for four-octave music, ten new members.  Please consider joining this enjoyable and gratifying music ministry of Trinity.  The ability to read music is helpful but not required.

Until we have enough members for a viable ensemble, Handbell Choir rehearsals are unfortunately on hiatus.  This does not mean we're giving up.  Our next goal is to have an ensemble prepared to play for Christmas Eve, with rehearsals reconvening at the end of October:  Wednesday, 26 October at 6:00 p.m. in the Music Building.  Please join us!

If you are interested in either the Trinity Episcopal Choir or the Trinity Handbell Choir, please contact Organist and Choirmaster Jason Hobratschk:  jhobratschk@trinityvero.org or 584-1035.

Adults now have two choices for classes on Sundays at 9:00 am. Classes will be held in the Media Center and the Conference Room in the administration building.

Fr. Jacobs will teach an Enquirer's Class for anyone new to Trinity or the Episcopal faith. It also serves as a great refresher course for long- time Episcopalians. The class will run through the beginning of Advent when a new class will begin. This Sunday's topic is "Anglicans in Worship,"and next Sundays's will be "The Trinity and the Incarnation."

The second class for adults is a discussion of denominations and other faiths looking at the differences and similarities among Christian faiths and the various Protestant denominations. It will also consider the beliefs of Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses followed by a brief look at religions from other parts of the world.
