Fr. John and Betsy Jacobs wish to thank all of you who have expressed your sympathy for the death of Betsy's mother. "And life is eternal; and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight."

PRESTON MILLER FUNERAL

Preston Miller's funeral will be held on Monday, September 26th at 11:00AM in the Church.

THE COLLECT

This Sunday's collect is from Thomas Cramner - Archbishop of Canterbury under Henry VIII and martyr of the Anglican faith. As a reflection of God's patience with the grumbling Israelites in our first reading from Exodus; the joyful compassion of Christ expressed by Paul in the second reading from Philippians; and the tolerant forbearance of Jesus in dealing with the Pharisees in our Gospel text - the collect reminds us that God is greatest in his mercy and forgiveness. It is the divine grace that sustains our souls that we must strive for, more fervently that for anything this world can afford. Fr. Jacobs

TRINITY HOSTS COMBINED CHORAL FESTIVAL SUNDAY AFTERNOON

The Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (TCCAGO) and Trinity Episcopal Church are hosting a Combined Choral Festival Concert on Sunday, 25 September 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity.  The concert will feature six anthems sung by the festival choir under the direction of Mr. Daniel Koh, Director of Musical Activities at St. Edward's School, Vero Beach.  The one-hour concert program comprises six choral anthems interspersed with hymns and poetry about music by John Milton, Henry Van Dyke, Martin Luther, Robert Herrick, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

The concert is divided into several units, introduced by Paul Basler's "Be Thou My Vision."  "New Songs of the Earth" focuses on the contemporary and international anthems "Great is the Lord" by Michael W. Smith, arranged by Lloyd Larson, and "Bonse Aba," a traditional Zambian song arranged by Andrew Fischer.  The "Songs of the Evening and the New Day" portion of the program is oriented about Orlando Gibbons's "Drop, Drop Slow Tears" and Austin Lovelace's "I Will Arise and Go to Jesus."  The program closes with the portion of the concert titled "Servants of Song," which features the installation of the 2011-2012 TCCAGO Officers and Richard Proulx's anthem "O God Beyond All Praising," an arrangement of the lyrical "Jupiter" theme from Gustav Holst's symphonic work, The Planets.

A freewill offering will benefit the TCCAGO Scholarship Fund.  The Fund provides for up to two years of study for local musicians interested in playing the organ.

WITH MUSIC IN MIND

Regular rehearsals of the Trinity Episcopal Choir are on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Music Building. The Trinity Choir always welcomes new members.

The Trinity Handbell Choir is in need of additional members.  We need to add two new members in order to ring two-octave music.  But we have room for many more - and many more bells - four octaves!  In order to ring three-octave music, we would need to add six new members; for four-octave music, ten new members.  Please consider joining this enjoyable and gratifying music ministry of Trinity.  The ability to read music is helpful but not required.

Until we have enough members for a viable ensemble, Handbell Choir rehearsals are unfortunately on hiatus.  This does not mean we're giving up.  Our next goal is to have an ensemble prepared to play for Christmas Eve, with rehearsals reconvening at the end of October:  Wednesday, 26 October at 6:00 p.m. in the Music Building.  Please join us!

If you are interested in either the Trinity Episcopal Choir or the Trinity Handbell Choir, please contact Organist and Choirmaster Jason Hobratschk:  jhobratschk@trinityvero.org or 584-1035.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

Adults now have two choices for classes on Sundays at 9:00 am. Classes will be held in the Media Center and the Conference Room in the administration building.

Fr. Jacobs will teach an Enquirer's Class for anyone new to Trinity or the Episcopal faith. It also serves as a great refresher course for long- time Episcopalians. The class will run through the beginning of Advent when a new class will begin.

The second class for adults is a discussion of denominations and other faiths looking at the differences and similarities among Christian faiths and the various Protestant denominations. It will also consider the beliefs of Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses followed by a brief look at religions from other parts of the world.

YOUTH GROUP

Calling all Middle and High School youth! The newly-formed Trinity Episcopal Youth Group will meet at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Youth Building. Bring a friend! We'll watch a movie and Toni Houdyshell will lead a discussion. Don't miss out on this exciting, brand-new program!

BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS

This Sunday, September 25th will be Trinity's first blessing of the backpacks. It will be part of the 10 am service. It will set the stage for the Children's Sermons that Fr. Jacobs will be offering twice a month.

It's a wonderful way to involve the children of our parish in worship. After the children's sermon, the youngest of the children may leave for childcare while the older children may return to the pews to sit with their parents.

TRINITY READING GROUP

The first meeting of the Trinity Reading Group is scheduled for September 27th at 10 o'clock in the Media Center. The Book for discussion is The Island at the Center of the World by Russell Shorto. Our October book is American's Hidden History by Kenneth Davis.

We are a small group of dedicated and enthusiastic readers. All are welcome to join us at any time. At the present time we are all women, but the masculine perspective would be much appreciated. Call Judith Park at 770-2552 or Eleanor Wade at 778-4605 with questions or to obtain a schedule for the year.

PASTORAL CARE

If you or someone you know is ill, in the hospital or hospice, or a shut-in, please be sure to contact the church office and let us know so that we visit and minister to you.

Your pastoral care team visited 30 members or friends of Trinity in the month of August and 14 in the first three weeks of September.
