BIN LADEN POST-MORTEM

I was away last week in North Carolina when the news broke of Osama bin Laden's death at the hands of our Navy Seals. While giving thanks that the world is safer by the absence of a major terrorist, I was a bit concerned about the "celebrations" in New York and Washington, D. C., and the general exuberance in the death of bin Laden.

Considering what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount - that we are to pray for our enemies - I don't celebrate the death of anyone for whom Jesus died. Whether it's bin Laden, Hitler, or Ted Bundy, what is there to celebrate in the death of an individual - no matter how evil - when there is still so much conflict to be resolved? The only death I celebrate is that of our Lord and Savior, because by his death, "we are freed from the power of sin and reconciled with God." (BCP, p. 850).

While acknowledging our duty to defend ourselves and the defenseless - when terror, hatred, and fear have been overcome by faith, hope, and love through Jesus Christ, then what a celebration that will be!

ORGAN AND HANDBELL CONCERT THIS SUNDAY!

The Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (TCCAGO) Member Recital will be held this Sunday, May 15, at 4:00 p.m. at Community Church. The concert will feature solo organ and piano works played by members of the TCCAGO.  Trinity Organist and Choirmaster Jason Hobratschk will be playing a work by French composer Louis Vierne.  In addition, the concert will feature the premiere of the Treasure Coast's newest ensemble, the Atlantic Ringers.  The Atlantic Ringers is an auditioned community handbell ensemble made up of members of various area churches, including Trinity.  The Atlantic Ringers will be an exciting addition to the recital!  Tickets cost $15.00, and proceeds go to the TCCAGO Scholarship Fund.  All are cordially invited to attend!

MAY FOOD SUNDAY TALLY

I am happy to report that you gave 420 pounds of food to The Salvation Army food pantry in our May food collection, along with $195.00 in cash donations. Considering the degree to which our congregation has shrunk now that we've entered the summer season, this is a very respectable amount. THANK YOU!
