This Palm Sunday is an opportunity to identify with the people of Jerusalem shouting "Crucify him!" as Jesus is sentenced to death on the cross. These people - who had just previously shouted "Hosanna!" to welcome Jesus into their city - were now  in the midst of a crisis of faith. To whom could they trust: the hated Romans and their own corrupt religious leaders - strange bedfellows intent on the execution of their "king" - or this man who might indeed be their long-awaited Messiah? Palm Sunday is an example of how not to handle a crisis: by panicking, and relying on the worst specimens of our nature, instead of the God who created all of nature.

On this Sunday's date - April 17, 1970 - Apollo 13 splashed down in the Pacific with its three crewmen safe and secure. They had spent a harrowing week in space, on a failed mission to the moon, in which their safe return to earth was largely in doubt. It was the worst crisis to date in NASA's history, and might have been its greatest failure had it not brought the crew home. It took the combined, indomitable perseverance of NASA's engineers and pilots on the ground, the crew in space - and the fervent prayers of the nation - to accomplish NASA's most successful "failure." How did we handle this crisis? We didn't panic, and we relied on the fundamentals.

This Sunday, we identify with the hysterical crowd shouting "Crucify him," but we don't have to live our lives in such shameful fear. When we are tempted with "pushing the panic button," we have the noble example of Apollo 13 - America at its best in a crisis - and the inspired words of Jesus, who was always reminding us: "Fear not, for I am with you always, even to the end of the earth."

EGG HUNT FOR CHILD CARE RESOURCES

Next Thursday - Maundy Thursday - Trinity will host and sponsor an egg hunt party for the children, parents, and teachers of Child Care Resources from 3:00-4:30 pm. We are continually looking for ways to reach out and connect with this deserving preschool that shares our facilities and provides such needed childcare services to children (50+ and growing!) and working parents in our community.

PARISH DIRECTORIES

Good news! The parish directories are here at last! You will be able to pick
up your copy in the narthex of the church on Sunday or at the church office.

TRINITY EASTER BRASS- SPONSORS STILL SOUGHT

On Easter Sunday, the musical forces of Trinity Episcopal Church will be augmented with a five-piece brass ensemble, the Trinity Easter Brass, and timpani.  Enhancing our worship services with quality musicians at Easter, Christmas, and other festival Eucharists taxes our music budget, but the expenses are well worth it.  Not only do Trinity parishioners enjoy special music, but so do visitors to our parish.  With the Trinity Easter Brass, all should go out from our Eucharist not only uplifted, but exuberant.

Three instruments have already been sponsored by generous parishioners, and the Music Department is still seeking sponsors for the others.  The cost of each instrument is $250.00.  If you are interested in sponsoring an instrument, you may request the instrument you would like to support, or you may make a sponsorship to the Trinity Easter Brass in general.  If you are unable to entirely sponsor one instrument, partial or joint sponsorships are welcome.  Sponsors will be listed in the Easter Sunday bulletin.  The DEADLINE for notifying the church of your sponsorship is 2:00 P.M. FRIDAY, 15 APRIL.  Thank you for considering sponsoring the Trinity Easter Brass, enlivening our Easter celebration; and supporting local musicians!

YALE WHIFFENPOOFS TO CONCERTIZE AT TRINITY!

On Tuesday, 26 April (the Tuesday after Easter), the Yale Whiffenpoofs will be giving a concert at Trinity.  The Whiffenpoofs, founded in 1909, are the world's oldest and best-known collegiate male a capella singing group.  This group of 14 tuxedoed senior gentlemen from Yale performs around the world every year, delighting audiences with their voices and unique Ivy League polish. Tickets cost:  $15.00 for general admission; $10.00 for students and seniors; and $25.00 (priority seating - only 32 spots available) and are available

at whiffenpoofs.com or trinityvero.org or at the door.  The concert begins at 7:00 P.M.  Come for an evening of entertaining music for the whole family.

EASTER FOOD DRIVE

You might recall that last year, thanks to your generosity, we had a highly successful Easter Food Drive. We'd like to continue that tradition of success this year!

Please share your blessings with a needy family by participating this year. Once again, we'll be supporting the work of The Salvation Army. Please return your filled grocery bag and list of suggested non-perishable items to the Narthex of the church or the entry to the chapel  by the weekend of April 16th & 17th. We also need contributions to buy the hams, so if you don't want to go grocery shopping, please make a contribution (either cash or check) - envelopes marked "Easter Food Drive" will be provided.

Thank you,

The Outreach Committee

READING GROUP

The Trinity reading group will meet in the media room on Tuesday, April 26, at 10 o'clock.  Ginny Gridley will review Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, "by Helen Simonson," a charming and intelligent book set in an English village.  All are welcome to join our spirited discussions.

Island at the Center of the World, which was originally scheduled for this month, has been postponed until September.

The food can be either perishable or non-perishable. If you are going north soon, this donaton would help us with food that might otherwise not be used.
