ANOTHER LONG GOSPEL READING?
In these last three Sundays before Palm Sunday, our Gospel readings have been from John, and I'm sure it hasn't escaped anyone's attention that these readings have been much longer than usual. Last week's story of the Samaritan woman at the well was 37 verses; this week's account of the healing of the man born blind is 40 verses; and next week's narrative of the raising of Lazarus will be 44 verses. Why are these lessons from John some of the longest in the lectionary? Unlike the other three Gospels, John isn't as concerned with a detailed, sequential recitation of the life and teachings of Jesus. Rather, John prefers to present the story of Jesus in a series of episodic vignettes, carefully chosen to reveal the incarnate nature of Jesus. In contrast to the other Gospels, John is more concerned with who Jesus is than with what Jesus did ( the emphasis in Mark) and what he said ( the emphasis in Matthew and Luke). Despite the length of many of these stories in John, what we gain is an intimately personal view of Jesus' identity from John, the "beloved disciple" - described by Robert Browning as the disciple who was "breast to breast with God." The response John seeks from each of us is that, having read his Gospel, we will fall to our knees and proclaim - as Thomas does in John 20: 28 - "my Lord and my God!" May that same God bless our devoted attention to the reading of His holy scripture.

CHURCH PERIODICAL CLUB
The Church Periodical Club is an independent, affiliated organization of the Episcopal Church, and was founded in 1888 at the Church of the Holy Communion in New York City. It is dedicated to providing free literature, religious and secular, to people all over the world. It depends entirely on voluntary contributions to carry out its work. We can all be partners in the ministry of the Church by supporting CPC.
For many, many years, Trinity members have supported the work of this organization and we hope that you will continue the tradition! On Saturday, March 26th and Sunday, March 27th, envelopes will be available in the Narthex and the Chapel for you to pick up. The ingathering will then take place the following Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd. There will be baskets in the Narthex for your contributions, or you may put a check (with the notation CPC on the memo line) in the offering plate. If you will be away from Vero, you may mail your contribution to the church office. Thank you for your help!

EASTER FOOD DRIVE
You might recall that last year, thanks to your generosity, we had a highly successful Easter Food Drive. We'd like to continue that tradition of success this year!
Please share your blessings with a needy family by participating this year. Once again, we'll be supporting the work of The Salvation Army. You can pick up a grocery bag and list of suggested non-perishable items in the Narthex of the church and in the entry to the chapel. Return your filled grocery bag by the weekend of April 16th & 17th. We also need contributions to buy the hams, so if you don't want to go grocery shopping, please make a contribution (either cash or check) - envelopes marked "Easter Food Drive" will be provided.
Thank you,
The Outreach Committee
