| BIU scientists to work with prestigious nano firm in developing cancer treatment
Dr. Cyril Cohen, of BIU's Laboratory of Tumor Immunology and Immuno-therapy in the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Science, will collaborate with the prestigious nanotechnology company Piercell to develop a novel treatment for metastatic melanoma. He will serve on the advisory board of Piercell, which aims to integrate its innovative biomolecular delivery device with Dr. Cohen's cell therapy protocols that target and destroy cancer cells in the patient's body.

| Outsmarting cancer through biotechnology
While the exact cause of cancer is still a mystery, a great deal more is being discovered about how the disease develops at the molecular level. Prof. Uri Nir, head of the Nano-Medicine Center at BIU, has revealed a "smoking gun," an enzyme that, in several tissue types, plays a pivotal role in cancer onset and progression.

| BIU turns Israel's "Brain Drain" into "Brain Gain"
In a country without natural resources, among Israel's greatest assets are its brain power and its entrepreneurial spirit. The academic "brain drain" of recent years could have a severe, long-term negative impact on Israel's leadership role in science, technology and academic research. Turning the "brain drain" into a "brain gain" is a major priority for Bar-Ilan University.
In his Op-Ed in the New York Jewish Week, BIU President Moshe Kaveh wrote about the University's mission to recruit and return bright young Israeli scientists to Israel in order to reverse the "brain drain."

| Nanotechnology gets bigger, expands to undergrads
As part of its mission to lead the way in developing the field of nanotechnology, BIU has expanded its undergraduate studies in nanotechnology to chemistry students in the material sciences track, physics students in bio-physics, and life science students.
This step will enable these students to prepare for their advanced degrees in nanotechnology.

Obama's American Dream in the Middle East
Prof. Gerald Steinberg
President Barack Obama's Cairo speech was first and foremost an affirmation of the American dream, both in terms of his own story, and also of the broader national ethos. History, he told his Arab and Moslem audience, was an obstacle to be overcome, and no differences were too great to prevent understanding and cooperation to achieve common objectives. Obama preached the virtues of freedom, religious tolerance, including for persecuted Copts in Egypt, and equal educational opportunities for women - all major problems in Arab societies.
