| Nano Pioneer Develops New, Efficient and Cost Effective Solar Energy Cell
Using nano-based methods, Prof. Arie Zaban, Head of Bar-Ilan University's Nanotechnology Institute, created a solar cell that is 100 times bigger than his previous design. In a recently patented technique, Prof. Zaban demonstrated how metallic wires mounted on conductive glass form the basis of solar cells which produce electricity as efficiently as conventional methods, but cost far less.

President Obama and the Middle East Challenge
by Prof. Jonathan Rynhold,
Senior Research Fellow at the BESA Center at Bar-Ilan University
Barack Obama's general outlook on foreign policy is the opposite of George W. Bush's approach. He has enunciated a clear program for Middle East policy based on multilateralism and negotiations to deal with Iran, Iraq and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
In reality he will have to make tough choices about what to prioritize and do when other countries reject the US approach. The most important challenge he faces concerns Iran, rather than the Arab-Israeli conflict.
So what is the outlook for Obama's foreign policy on Iraq, Iran, the War on Terror and the Arab-Israeli Arena? And what are the implications for Israel? One of the main themes of Obama's campaign was "change," including a rejection of George W. Bush's "ideological" approach to foreign policy, in favor of "pragmatism."
