Organ Donor Campaign Underway
Currently, nearly 3,000 Ohioans find themselves on a waiting list for a healthy organ. The need for organ donors is urgent, and Cuyahoga Community College's Western Campus is moving forward with the DO IT NOW campaign, a program designed to save lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation.

Tri-C is the only community college invited to participate in DO IT NOW, and is competing with four-year institutions to promote and educate the community on organ donations. The overall winner will receive $2,000 to benefit their organization. More...

Holiday Gala Highlights

Hundreds of Tri-C employees donned their finest for the annual Tri-C holiday gala.  Party-goers packed the dance floor all night on Friday, January 19th, at the Embassy Suites Rockside in Independence.  Good thing, because many needed to work off a few calories, after feasting from the gorgeous buffet made up of roast beef, chicken, asparagus and a huge assortment of mouth watering desserts.

Welcome Back

It's hard to believe, but Spring semester has sprung at Tri-C!  Classes officially get underway this week, and we're all settling back into our regular work routines after the winter break.

With the new year comes some changes.  For most of us in the Marketing Department, the biggest change is our location.  Campus Marketing Managers and their assistants remain on their respective campuses... but everyone else in Marketing has moved into new offices in the Terminal Tower.  Also joining us at Tower City, many of the folks from IT, Student Accounting and Financial Aid. More than 80 Tri-C employees are now working on the second floor of the Terminal Tower, and in case you haven't had a chance to visit, here's a sneak peak: link to photos here.
Tri-C holds 5th annual Faculty Colloquium
Creating Connections: Pathways to Integrated Learning was the theme of the 5th annual Faculty Colloquium held on the Eastern Campus on January 6th.  More than 300 Tri-C faculty members from across the college attended.  During the day, most members attended three preselected sessions which they chose from a myriad of offerings, ranging from a panel with the 2008 Besse Award winners sharing their keys to success in connecting with students in the classroom, to a hands-on workshop teaching faculty how to join the Second Life virtual reality network.  An optional fourth session, dubbed the "After Party" encouraged faculty to network and explore multi-disciplinary learning through the concept of Learning Communities.

Dr. Michelle Nicopolis, co-chair of the Faculty Colloquium Committee, says the event is, "Typically one of the favorite days for faculty because we get to learn from each other." The colloquium is usually held before the start of the Spring semester and brings together faculty from all campuses.  The sessions this year were offered in three formats: panel, lecture/discussion, and hands on.  Each allowing faculty to share ideas, collaborate across disciplines and campuses.  To view photos from the day, click here.
Tri-C, CSU & Kent Create Dual Admissions Program

Thanks to a new iniative involving Tri-C, it's now easier for students in Ohio to earn a four year degree.  In December, Dr. Thornton, along with the presidents of Cleveland State University and Kent State, signed an agreement creating a new Dual Admissions Partnership Program that will benefit students at all three institutions.

"This dual admissions program ensures a seamless transition for our students who earn an associate degree from Tri-C and then want to pursue a bachelor's degree at Kent or CSU," said President Thornton.  "It also provides our students access to programs and services they otherwise could not access until they transferred to either of these great universities."  More...

Dr. Thornton receives CSU honorary degree
On Sunday, December 14, Dr. Thornton was presented with an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Cleveland State University.

This week's Mandel Leadership spotlight is on:
Pamela Norris Ellison, Ph.D., Professor, Information Technology
Dr.  Pamela Ellison and Tri-C go way back.  She first joined Tri-C in 1978 as an adjunct professor of Office Administration.  "I taught keyboarding classes and shorthand back then," laughs Dr. Ellison.

In 1999, Dr. Ellison rejoined the college full-time as a lecturer, and in 2000, she was hired as a tenure track instructor of information technology.

When Dr. Ellison was asked to take part in the Mandel Leadership Program she says, "I was surprised and honored, because the participants were actually hand selected by the campus presidents."  More...

Nine professors and sixteen college employees were selected to take part in the new Mandel Leadership Development program.  Inside Tri-C is highlighting those outstanding individuals with a photo and brief bio story.

Bannerize It!
Tri-C wants you to know you have a say about the future of Banner. Right now, Tri-C is undergoing a Banner Revitalization Project.  The effort started in December, and more than 80 people were included in sessions to help assess what the college needs from Banner. More sessions are planned in the near future.

Banner is a comprehensive software application suite which has served as the college's IT system infrastructure for student information, human resources, financial aid, and financial management since 1995.  As a result, Banner supports functions that are needed for the college to run efficiently by providing the ability for the various modules to interface with each other for the purpose of accomplishing day to day operational tasks.  More...
