A NOTE FROM PASTOR TIM

Spring Cleaning?

I enjoy my conversations with my barber. I have learned that he is a collector. One of his collections is brass statues. Recently he told me that he is now purchasing the duplicate of each piece so that his two children may inherit them equally.

As he cut my hair it got me to thinking about accumulating things. I wondered, what is it about human nature that wants to hold on, to save, and to have more things? Why is it so hard to throw or give something away? Maybe for some of you it is not hard to throw/give things away, (that is because in the economy-of-God those who throw things away are always married to those who do not throw things away - it all balances out).

Can you think of something in your closet, garage, or storage unit that you have not used in the past year? Why are you keeping it? Do you hold on to it so that you can use it later? (Yes, I still have my narrow ties for the day when they come back into style).

Which brings me back to my barber and my garage. What if the barber's two children do not want his collectables? And what if my children do not want the 'stuff' that I have around the house?

Why is it so hard to let go?
