And he said to them, 'Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here...but go tell his disciples that he is going before you to Galilee, there you will see him, as he told you.' Mark 16.6-7
Why Galilee?
Why didn't Jesus go to the Jewish authorities or to Pilate to let them know how wrong they were?
Why didn't he go to Rome, Athens, or to another place of great prominence?
He had already been chided that "nothing good can come out of Galilee" - it was a backwater, slumbering place. So why, why would Jesus return to the people who had misunderstood him, rejected and disappointed him?
Jesus returns to the people who broke his heart. And that gives me hope - because it means that Jesus also returns to you and me. Even though we do not live up to his great commandment, "to love God and others as we love ourselves".... he has not, and will not, give up on his.
And so we now live in Easter's promise - the all encompassing forgiveness of unconditional love.
In faith,

Pastor Tim
