A NOTE FROM PASTOR TIM

"Lent is a call to renew a commitment grown dull, Perhaps by a life more marked by routine than by reflection."  Joan Chittister

A tradition of the church is to invite the household-of-God to a season of reflection preceding Easter. As Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness in prayer and reflection, so Christians have used the 40 days prior to Easter to pray and reflect on the meaning of Christ's birth, life, and death. The season is called Lent because it is also the time of year when the days are lengthening. The hope is that this is a time when we grow/lengthen in the faith.

By tradition, the season begins with a service called Ash Wednesday; palms from the previous year are burnt and the ashes from these palms used to place a cross on each Christian as a sign of repentance. Wednesday, February 22, you are invited to the 7 PM Ash Wednesday service. At the conclusion of the service, you may choose (or not choose) to come forward to have a cross etched on your forehead from the Palm-Sunday palms.

May God deepen and "lengthen" our faith during this season,

FAITH PONDERING

"The dominant thing we have to prove to spiritually-seeking non-Christians in a postmodern world is not that Christianity is true. We have to prove that it is good and beautiful. And if they are convinced it is good and beautiful, they will be open to it being true."
