A NOTE FROM PASTOR TIM

What Are Faith's Boundaries?

Christians have always sought to compartmentalize faith - to determine what part of their lives belongs to God and what part belongs to Caesar.   William Sloan Coffin, former chaplain at Yale, argued, however, that if we submitted everything that belonged to God to God, and everything that belonged to Caesar to Caesar, there wouldn't be anything left for Caesar!

Yet the human desire persists that God be compartmentalized and relegated to Sunday, and that economics, politics, and business be left to Caesar. Nice try. It just doesn't work that way. In our Reformed tradition, we do not believe that faith has a boundary; we believe that 'all areas of life require obedience to Jesus Christ'. That's a tall order - but an important directive.

Which brings me to the fact that today is the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.  Jim Wallace, the founder of Sojourner magazine, remembers when he was fifteen years old, a church elder told him, "Jim, Christianity has nothing to do with racism. That's political, and our faith is personal." I hope you disagree.
