A NOTE FROM PASTOR TIM

What to Say? Perhaps Nothing

It's probably happened to you. Something difficult happens to a friend, and you want to visit them to support them. But you don't know what to say;and because you don't know what to say, you may even avoid visiting. If so, an article in Spiritual Life (Summer) may be helpful.

Jack Reimer, a rabbi, tells about the time he and fellow rabbi, the late Abraham Joshua Heschel, went to visit mutual friends who had lost a loved one. When they arrived, Heschel hugged the grieving family members. He did not speak, but took a seat and continued to remain silent. An hour passed, Heschel got up and hugged the mourners again; and the two rabbis departed. Explains Reimer, "I learned that you don't have to be glib.... You just have to care!"

FAITH PONDERING

"Widow" comes from the Latin "videre," to separate, and the Sanskrit vindhate, "he lacks." The loss of a spouse alters a hundred details of daily existence and communication. Please take a moment and remember someone who is now on that journey of 'recovering' their life... please pray for them.

MISSION UPDATE

Cedarkirk Camp and Conference Center (our Presbytery Camp) for the second consecutive year broke an attendance record. This summer, more than 1,000 campers attended the programs. You may remember that several years, as the economy slumped, Faith took a generous offering to help the Camp make it through a difficult time. Great news is that Cedarkirk is stronger than ever!
