Servant Leadership
Gary Locke, former Governor of Washington and current US Ambassador to China, is the talk of China this week. Posted and discussed on the Chinese blogosphere is a picture of Mr. Locke at an airport Starbucks ordering his own coffee and carrying his own luggage. Shocking! At least it is shocking to the Chinese who are accustomed to public officials being treated as royalty. Even officials in small villages have chauffeured cars. That Mr. Locke should display this type of 'humility' is creating a welcomed debate about the nature and purpose of leadership.
The Book of Order (G-14.0100) is clear:
"The purpose and pattern of leadership in the church in all its forms of ministry, shall be understood not in terms of power but of service, after the manner of the servant ministry of Jesus Christ."
May those who have been gifted, in positions of leadership or in other ways, serve! Amen.
In faith,
Pastor Tim

Moment for Generosity
Your generosity has put smiles on the faces of nearly 300 children. The Mission Committee has collected 160 book bags and $1357.00 for our back-to-school drive. This means that all of the 120 eligible children currently receiving food through our We Care program started school on August 8th with NEW book bags and school supplies. The good news does not end here. The Mission Committee has purchased additional book bags with the donated money. These book bags went to Immokalee to provide over 150 children with book bags to start their school on August 15th. What a generous gift it is to put a smile on the face of a child!
