A Culture of Generosity
We are nearly through July, a time when church income shrinks dramatically and pastors make pleas to the congregation to be 'good stewards'. In truth, that's not stewardship- that's fund raising. Stewardship is about cultivating a life of generosity.
We are very fortunate at Faith. A generous congregation has allowed us to meet our commitments for ministry; generosity is replacing fund-raising. Even though it is mid-summer, the church is financially healthy. This epistle is not about fund-raising, but it is a reminder that in all aspect of our lives, followers of Jesus are generous.
The truth is that many people are turned off by 'the church' because instead of hearing this stewardship message they only hear the appeal for more and more funds. When we create a culture of generosity, people are willing to help with vacation Bible school, the food ministry, and even to keep the offering plate full. Our goal at Faith is not to 'make the budget', but to be a 'culture of generosity'.
The world is broken and the people of God have to do their share to mend it. Giving your time, talent and treasure makes you part of the solution.
In faith,

Pastor Tim
