Millennium Development Goals (MDG)

Recently, one of our adult education classes discussed the United Nations MDG which outlines the commitment of the international community to halve the number of people living in extreme poverty by 2015.  These goals, set in 2000, have been signed by each of the 192 representative countries of the United Nations.

While much work needs to be done, the good news is that people living in extreme poverty (defined as living on less than $1.25 a day) has declined from l.8 billion to 1.4 billion between 1990 and 2005.

If you are not familiar with the goals of the MDG, the are:

1.     Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

2.     Achieve universal primary education

3.     Promote gender equality and empower

        women

4.     Reduce child mortality

5.     Improve maternal health

6.     Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other

        diseases

7.     Ensure environmental sustainability

8.     Develop a global partnership for

        development

Jesus said,"Feed my sheep."

FAITH PONDERINGS

Members of a junior high youth group in Wisconsin did a study of the apostles.  One young lass wrote, "The worst apostle was Judas Asparagus.  He was evil and that's why they named that terrible vegetable after him."

CELEBRATE WITH MUSIC

hand bells

Sponsor a Vocal or Handbell Anthem

Faith Choir and Faith Ringers will be offering the following new anthems in Worship in April and May.  If you would like to sponsor one of these anthems in honor or in memory of someone, please contact Michael Helman at the church office or email him at michael@faithcapecoral.org.  The donation for a choral anthem is $100 and for a handbell piece is $75.  These donations help our music program to offer a varied selection of new music for worship.

Good Friday - April 22nd

"On the Mount of Olives" - Anton Bruckner

The motet speaks of Jesus' agony in the Garden       of Gethsemane as he prays to his Father.

"Silent Tears" - Craig Courtney

This beautiful and haunting piece is about

Mary at the foot of the cross.

"Surely He Was the Son of God" - Craig Courtney

The centurion's confession  at the foot of the       cross is beautifully portrayed in this anthem of       hope and resurrection.

Easter Sunday - April 24th

"Now the Green Blade Riseth"- arr. Michael Helman

This exuberant handbell anthem will be a

part of our Easter morning celebration.

"Music of the Spheres" - arr. Kevin McChesney

This handbell anthem, which incorporates a

brass quintet, is an exciting medley of hymns          on creation.

Sunday, May 22nd

"The Call" - Stroope

This anthem is based on the text from John

where Christ instructs the disciples that He is

"the way, the truth, and the life."
