I Forgive You

A wonderful tradition of the Greek Orthodox Church observed in the village churches during the Ash Wednesday service was that each person turned to the person next to them and said, "Will you forgive me of every sin that I have committed against you?" The person would respond, "I do forgive you," and then would ask, "and will you forgive me all the sins that I have committed against you?" They embraced as a sign of the forgiveness and grace that they shared with one another.  And then they proceeded to repeat this ritual throughout the entire congregation. They began the Lenten season "fresh and clean."  Believe the good news of the Gospel; in Jesus Christ we are forgiven, AND we have the grace to forgive one another.

Powerful stuff.

FAITH PONDERINGS

"Life is this simple.  We are living in a world that is absolutely transparent, and God is shining through it all the time.  This is not just a fable or a nice story.  It is true.  If we abandon ourselves to God and forget ourselves, we see it sometimes, and we see it maybe frequently.  God shows Himself everywhere, in everything - in people and in things and in nature and in events.  It becomes very obvious that God is everywhere and in everything, and we cannot be without Him.  It's impossible.  The only thing is that we don't see it."
