Civility
On February 8 at Tuesdays Together, we had a conversation with three Muslim Imam's. At one point, Mohammed Haq said, "I commend this congregation; usually when I am invited to a Christian group people do not want to have a conversation, they just want to make a point." Then he continued, "We are used to being ambushed; we are not use to this wonderful hospitality." Civility is a lost art. Faith Church may be an exception - as one of the Imam's said, "Where else in Lee County could we have such a conversation without it becoming a shouting match?" More recently, a local political figure spoke at our men's breakfast. We had a good crowd, and I sensed some concern on his part as to how he might be received. Before he spoke I told him, "There will be men here this morning who disagree with you 100%, but they will be civil, and they will listen to you." And they did. What an incredible congregation! As society becomes more caustic and divided, at Faith we have a culture that respects one another, respects differences, and seeks understanding. We are fortunate. In faith,

Someone once quipped that "the problem with Americans and the Bible is that we read it like a drunk uses a lamppost. We lean on it, we don't use it for illumination."
Tuesday nights, Pastor Tim is leading an in-depth Bible study on the Gospel of Mark. As we approach Easter, this would make an excellent Lenten discipline! Will be repeated Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. in Hunt Chapel.
