Recently I was asked the question that cut to the quick: "This whole thing with Christmas, what does it mean?" My response:
"To me, it means that the force, the power, the Spirit that created the universe - and perhaps parallel universes, if they too exist - decided to be with us, then, now, and always."
That's what it means for me. Take away the poetry and the sentimentality. Take away the beauty and the festiveness. Strip the tree bare, and the essence is there - God with us.
And that means, dear friend, that whatever happens to you in this season, or the next season of your life, the power of faith, the power of hope, and the power of love is with you through the incarnation of Jesus the Christ.
The incarnation story began at Christmas; at Easter, we will celebrate its triumph.
