Friends At Prayer

Recently I received a phone call asking me if I would join some friends to pray with a woman who was about to begin radiation treatments, to be followed by chemotherapy. The woman is a cancer survivor of some fifteen years; but the cancer has recently returned, vigorously.

We gathered, and over coffee and coffeecake, friends and family expressed their support and love. I read from the Psalms, and we prayed.

As I drove away from the gathering, I realized that there was something very powerful in that gathering. The Spirit was present. To face cancer's uncertainty alone would be overwhelming. But she is not alone; she knows that God is with her and that she is surrounded and supported by 'the cloud of witnesses' that gathered on her lanai that morning.

This is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Perhaps you know someone who needs your support. Reach out!

Peace be with you,

Faith Ponderings ...

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
2   Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!

3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
   Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with you,
so that you may be revered.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
   and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
8 It is he who will redeem Israel
   from all its iniquities.

Psalm 130

Thoughts on the Yankees' Demise...

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped, and summer was gone."
