God With Us

I've been reading Richard J. Foster's Life With God (2008). Foster sees the central theme of Scripture to be The Immanuel Principle, "God with us." Foster understands God to be saying to us, "I am with you in all the love and terror and pity and pain and wonder that is your life. I am with you. Are you willing to be with Me?"

Too often, we think of God only as above us--with absolute power, dominion, and control over our lives. When we begin to understand the God who is with us, we begin to think of God as vulnerable in and for a suffering world, as a God of self-giving, suffering love--a God who calls us to this same compassionate and costly love.

God is with us.

Are we willing to be with God?

Peace be with you,

Faith Ponderings ...
"Christians feed on Scripture. Holy Scripture nurtures the holy community as food nurtures the human body.  Christians don't simply learn or study or use Scriptures; we assimilate it, take it into our lives in such a way that it gets metabolized into acts of love, cups of cold water, missions into all the world, healing and evangelism and justice in Jesus' name, hands raised in adoration of the Father, feet washed in company with the Son."

Women of the Covenant
Do you want to grow in your understanding and relationship with Jesus Christ? We invite "women" of all ages to come and join us for a 10 week bible study beginning October 19 at 9:30 a.m. in Faith Center, Room 7. Our ministry is dedicated to inspiring women to make their relationship with Jesus Christ the center of who they are and how they live each moment. Women of the Covenant explores the stories of eight women from scripture, as well as contemporary faith stories. It is a spiritual journey for women who carry on the legacy of faith. If you are interested, please contact Michelle at michelle@faithcapecoral.org.

Parish Nurse Program

Grateful for the legacy and lead-gift from the estate of Walter and Bunny Dunlap, the Session is pleased to announce that Faith will join the Lee Memorial Health System Parish Nurse Program. Currently, there are twenty faith communities in Lee and Collier Counties, representing nine denominations,  that are part of this program. The parish nurse will be a health counselor, educator, resource agent, integrator of faith and health, and health advocate.

This will be a twenty-hour a week, paid position.  The person who is chosen will not see this as a job, but as a 'calling' to use their gifts in service to Christ in the unique context of the Faith community.

We are looking for a Registered Nurse with the following qualifications: an active RN license in good standing from the state of Florida, 3-5 years recent clinical/community nursing experience required, BSN preferred, the ability to make competent nursing assessments independently, demonstates knowledge of teaching adult learning principles, shares values, beliefs, spirituality, and practices consistent with faith denomination, demonstates spiritual maturity and commitment to personal spiritual growth, the ability to understand, integrate and communicate concepts of the interrelatedness of body, mind, and spirit in health and wellness, and models personal concepts of holistic health incorporating body, mind, and spirit.

If you feel God is calling you to serve in this health ministry, please stop by our church office for an application packet or call Nancy Roberts, LMHS Parish Nurse Manager at (239) 432-3182. Parish Nurse Course Preparation and orientation provided by Lee Memorial Health System. Applications Due November 1, 2010. Position begins January 1, 2011.
