What's It All About, Alfie?

It had been a long time since I had heard the song, but it was playing on an 'oldies' station recently,

                "What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
                What's it all about?"

alfieDo you remember the film? It won the Cannes Film Festival in the 1966. It tells the story of a promiscuous man named Alfie (Michael Cain) who drifted from relationship to relationship, never able to commit, until finally, at the end of the film, he meets someone (Shelley Winters). He is now ready to commit, to settle down, to build a life of meaning and purpose...but the day he chooses to suggest all this to her, he finds her in bed with another man.

And so the film ends with this poignant scene...Alfie looks into the camera and asks the question, "What's it all about?"

If you haven't figured it out yet...Worship services are each Sunday, at 8:15, 9:30, and 11 a.m.

Faith Ponderings...
"One cannot find a meaningful life unless there is something one is prepared to give it up for. People's lives are therefore meaningful in proportion to their acknowledgment that there is something more important than the lives they are leading: something worth caring about in an ultimate way. The question, of course, is what that something is or ought to be."

Mission Update...
'We Care' is Faith's food ministry. Marian Grasso has released last month's numbers--for April we fed 505 individuals (including 212 children). This is certainly 'good -news/ bad-news.' Good news that our congregation has stepped up to meet the challenge of hunger in our community; bad news that the economy is in such direr condition. We have many to keep in our prayers!
