The magazine, Christianity Today, recently featured an article written by a college professor who explained that each year he asks his students to describe their political beliefs. He then asks the students to describe Jesus - would Jesus be a conservative or a liberal in today's context?
 
It is not surprising that Jesus is but a mirror of the students' perceptions. Odd, isn't it, how we create Jesus and God in our own image rather than being re-created in the image of God? In this highly charged political atmosphere in which we live, we do well to heed the following warning from Reinhold Niebuhr:
 
Like 'God fearing' people of all ages, we are never safe against the temptation of claiming God too simply as the sanctifier of whatever we most fervently desire."
