Are You Busy?
The chairman and CEO of Home Depot once told the following story at a business conference: Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up; it knows it must run faster than the fastest lion, or it will be killed. Every morning, the lion wakes up: it knows that it must outrun the slowest gazelle, or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: when the sun comes up, you'd better be running. The world is in a hurry. Yet the word Lent means 'to lengthen'... to slow down, unwind, unhook, set aside; it is a time to think, to feel, and to contemplate the wonder and awe of God. Are we but animals that in our survival of the fittest we must outrun everyone else? Perhaps being busy is not so much a symptom of our times as much as it is a betrayal of faith. We are not to mimic the world. We are to follow Christ; and as we follow him to Calvary, I pray that you will slow down and consider the Cross' meaning for your life. |
Don't give us blessings; give us grace to be obedient to your every command and desire. Don't give us status; give us a place to serve. Don't give us things for our use; use us. Don't give us good jobs; put us to work. Don't give us pleasure; give us perspective. Don't give us satisfaction; teach us sacrifice. Don't give us entertainment; enable us. Don't give us good salaries; give us strength to do your will. Don't give us a mansion to live in; give us a springboard to take Christ's love to the whole world. Our great joy is in pleasing our Lord; no other joy in life is comparable.

| One Great Hour of Sharing ... |
For more than 50 years, Presbyterians have joined with Christians throughout the nation in supporting One Great Hour of Sharing, responding to Christ's love for all people by joyfully sharing that love with people in need. The refugee and the stranger have found food and safe shelter; those stunned by the aftermath of disasters have found relief and help rebuilding; and communities seeking to take control of their future have found partners in development. Learn more about what gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing do.
Where does the money go? The Presbyterian Hunger Program receives 36 percent of undesignated gifts, while Self-Development of People and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance each receives 32 percent.
We at Faith Presbyterian will be receiving the One Great Hour of Sharing this coming Sunday, March 28, 2010. If you are unable to attend church and would like to give, please click here.
