We Care
As most of you know, We Care is Faith's food ministry--so named because many years ago a member, volunteering in the public schools, was appalled at the hunger he experienced and challenged the congregation: "Do we care about these kids?" Over the years, we have answered the question with our actions. Each month, Marian Grasso (thank God for her and the other volunteers) makes a report. This month, as I saw these numbers, I had very mixed feelings:
February 2010 Total number of households served - 98 Total number of people - 374 Total number of adults - 223 Total number of children - 151 Mixed feelings--on the one hand, this is a huge mission that Faith has undertaken, and it speaks to your caring about others. When Jesus asked Peter, "do you love me?" Peter said, "Yes," then, said Jesus, "Feed my sheep." On the other hand--I am shocked by the numbers. It is a stark reminder that we are living through very, very difficult economic times. Last month, 374 people found it necessary to turn to the church for food. Pray with me that these numbers shrink. |
