Deepening

The University of Chicago recently studied 52,000 U.S. adults. Not surprisingly, they found a deep yearning for God. What caught me off guard is that the study found that the number of adults practicing daily prayer rose from 52% in 1989-90 survey to 59% today. People are seeking God.

How is your prayer life? Is it deep and rich? Does it bring you before your Creator with a sense of awe and expectation? Or...are you stuck? Do you want to go deeper in your faith; but every time you try to pray you either day dream, fall asleep, or become bored? How do you get out of the starting blocks and encounter God?

For the next five weeks during our Tuesday's Together (6:30 p.m. in Faith Center) we will be joining the disciples as they asked, "Lord, teach us how to pray." We will learn the ancient disciplines; and as Paul says, "get in touch with those agonizing longings which never find words."(Romans 8:26) All are invited, all are welcome.

Each of us needs a spiritual discipline for Lent. I encourage you to make this your Easter preparation

Faith Ponderings...

"Give us pure hearts, that we may see you;

Humble hearts, that we may hear you;

Hearts of love, that we may serve you;

Hearts of faith, that we may abide in you."

Dag Hammarskjold, Markings

We Pray for Haiti ...

PDA, working in collaboration with partners, continues to provide basic humanitarian aid for those most impacted by the January earthquake and to assess ongoing recovery needs. More than $510,000 has been sent to help with relief. The Haiti response reveals challenges in humanitarian work. Read the February 9 story. PDA is asking you to stand in the GAP for disaster survivors as you Give, Act, and Pray.

This Sunday is Consecration Sunday
Faith does stewardship in a unique way. Here is what will happen:

You will receive a 'promise card' and a self-addressed envelope in the mail (if you have not already received it)

You are asked to write on the card the % of your income that you will commit to God through the church in 2010

You are then asked to place the card in the self-addressed envelope, seal the envelope, and place it in the 'consecration container' during the final song at this Sunday's worship service.

The envelope will be returned to you, unopened, in November as a reminder of your promise.
