The mailbox is already beginning to fill with heart warming, and often heart rending appeals, from various charities. Year end giving is a great tradition in America. So it is good to remember what we Presbyterians believe about giving. We believe that we are stewards. We believe that we do not give from our own wealth but give from God's. We believe that we are managing a trust on behalf of God, and our management must be concerned not only for our personal welfare and that of our family, but sharing wisely with a needy world.
People often ask me, "What charities are worthy?" I respond that with some research on the internet, you can determine what percent each charity spends on itself and what it spends on others; some charities are more charitable than others. .
And speaking of year end gifts - should the recession not have taken your storehouse away, please remember that this has been a difficult year for our church budget; as we approach year end, we have a deficit. I believe that Faith Church is one of the best investments you can make!
