The other day as the Dow was plummeting and people were lamenting, I realized the age-old adage that wealth is relative. To a multimillionaire, Warren Buffet is wealthy. To much of the world, you and I are wealthy. Consider that in most places of the world every grain of corn is valued. In the sub-Sahara, 25 million people have AIDS, and the life expectancy has fallen from the 60's to the high 30's in one generation. Compared to their problems, our economic issues are small potatoes. So while we are concerned with Wall Street, please realize that tomorrow morning the Good Lord will most probably put bread on your table and a roof over your head. That cannot be said about many, many places in the world. Let us continue to give thanks that we have been privileged to live in this nation in this time of abundance. And let us also realize that 'to whom much is given, much is expected.' |
