Tuesdays Together Resumes Tomorrow Night!
In l965, well over 50% of all Americans defined themselves as mainline Christians (Northern Baptist, United Church of Christ, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Presbyterian and Methodist). Today less than 8% of Americans belong to these churches. Quipped Newsweek's Kenneth Woodward, "They have "been running out of money, and members and people ever since (l965)." As Europe continues to experience 'de-Christianization,' in the United States it seems that only fundamentalism or the large, legalistic mega-churches provide any real alternative to secularism. For the past several years, I have bemoaned this state of affairs. Now I plan to do something about it --and I am inviting you to join me on Tuesday nights (6:30 - 7:30 PM, repeated Wednesday mornings at 10 AM, and available at www.faithcapecoral.org for our web-viewers) for an 11-week series on Rediscovering the Christian Faith. The answer to secularism is not to turn to fundamentalism. The answer to bad-religion is not no-religion. What we need are adult reconfirmation classes, to challenge the mind and heart to a passionate faith. I am inviting you to explore, renew, and rekindle this 'holy passion.' Please join me. I am energized by the challenge ahead. |
