Summer 2012 - Parent Update #2
|
Dear Summer Parents and Guardians,
Camp is less than two months away! We want to thank you, the families, for allowing your children to spend another summer with us at Culver, for working through the process online and over the phone, and for returning required materials so that we can properly prepare for camp's opening in June. In the sections below, you will find important pre-camp information including form reminders and updates as listed to the right. Be sure to check out the Summer Daily Bulletin where you will find this email, Parent Update #1, and other important links. If for any reason you have made other plans this summer and would need to cancel, please do let us know. We have several children on the wait list who would enjoy their first experience at Culver! If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this email and I will be happy to help you, or I will forward your message to the appropriate person. |

Aviation Program For all Upper Campers
Introducing Culver's Newly Redesigned & Improved Aviation Program!
Though student enthusiasm and passion for aviation has never changed, the way they learn about flying has changed dramatically - particularly so in just the past few years. Online instruction and state-of-the-art flight simulators are proven tools that Culver is adopting to provide better and more efficient flight training for its students. 'Efficient' means students will move through their flight syllabus more quickly and with fewer flight hours - which translates to a significant savings in the overall cost associated with earning a pilot's license.
Returning students from last year will hardly recognize our new aviation program, as it has been overhauled and updated from top to bottom. Check out the exciting new changes: Aviation Program

Personal Drawing Accounts (PDA)
For All Campers
PDA is used by your child as a spending account during camp. This is different than the Tuition Account, which is used by you as a billing account for your child's necessities at camp.
Campers make transactions from their PDA using their Camper Identification Card (ID card). Campers may purchase items only at camp locations (Uniform Department, Snackbar, and Campus Store) or withdraw cash at the Woodcraft or Upper Camp cashiers. The money is deducted from the PDA balance.
To avoid issues when camp begins, add funds to your child's PDA now by using the link below. Suggested amounts may be found in the green 2012 Parent/Guardian Guidebook.
Parents/guardians can access their child's PDA online to load funds, check purchases, and balances. Currently, the system only accepts American Express, VISA and Mastercard credit cards with a U.S. or Canadian address. Other parents/guardians will need to contact Culver directly to reload your child's PDA.
All remaining PDA balances at the end of camp are transferred to the camper's Tuition Account. The Accounting Department's Student Billing Office will refund any remaining credit in September. PDA website: https://www.mercury-gift.com/Culver/The term "gift card" refers to the Camper ID number and the "gift amount" is the amount to be deposited to the camper's PDA. This web page is NOT for gifts/donations to Culver.

Homecoming and Parents Weekend
For All Campers
Save the date for Homecoming and Parents Weekend: Friday, July 20 to Sunday, July 22. The weekend brings parents and alumni to the campus of Culver for a weekend of activities. Spend the day with your children at their classes, cheer them on at their afternoon athletic competitions, and take them off campus during Permit time! Although parents/guardians are allowed to visit every Saturday and Sunday except for the first weekend (June 30- July 1), we consider Homecoming and Parents Weekend a special weekend for our guests. There will be plenty of events, including adult socials, meetings, and normal visiting/permit privileges (found in your green 2012 Parent/Guardian Guidebook). If you plan to visit only one weekend this summer, we recommend Homecoming and Parents Weekend! The weekend draws many parents and alumni, so reserving a place to stay is very important. Search for lodging now and make a reservation!
Events begin as early as 8:30 am EDT on Friday, July 20 with your child's first class or track meet. If possible, try to arrive on Thursday evening, July 19. There are events on Sunday, July 22 as late as 8:00 pm EDT. If possible, try to depart Culver on Monday morning, July 23.
The tentative Homecoming and Parents Weekend schedule will be available next month on the Summer Daily Bulletin ( www.culver.org/summerdb). Area lodging may be found online or in your green 2010 Parent/Guardian Guidebook.
