| Attorney Wes MacIntosh to Lead New Reverse Mortgage Counseling Project | | Starting in January 2010, Elder Law of Michigan will add Reverse Mortgage Counseling to its work in the area of economic security. "We are very excited to have Wes and other staff trained to advise older adults on this important option for financing long term care of basic needs in retirement," said Kate White, Executive Director. Reverse mortgages are used to generate cash for older adults, using the equity in the home.
Homeowners must be able to maintain the home, and continue to pay property taxes and homeowners insurance on the property. "Our emphasis is on educating the homeowner about the benefits and drawbacks of reverse mortgages, including but not limited to discussing payment options and alternatives to reverse mortgages," said White.
To request Reverse Mortgage Counseling, please contact the Legal Hotline for Michigan Seniors at 800-347-5297.
