Older American Act Reauthorization
In 2011, Congress will consider reauthorization and
amendments to the Older Americans Act to take effect in FY 2012. Many organizations are currently having
conversations on what is working well and what areas of improvement exist. This is an opportunity to offer suggestions
on how to improve this legislation that impacts the lives of so many seniors
throughout the nation.
The U.S. Administration on Aging has been soliciting input
on how to change the Older Americans Act.
Three listening sessions were held recently in Washington, DC, San
Francisco, CA, and Dallas, TX. Persons
were allowed to speak for three minutes on their suggestions on changes to the
Older Americans Act.
Additionally,
input events have been hosted by national, state, tribal, regional, and local
organizations. If your organization
would like to host one of these events, you can pre-register your event.
Another
way that you can provide feedback is through the Administration on Aging's website.
You
can read the actual text of the current Older Americans Act here.
