Active Kids Influence Others to do the Same

by Salynn Boyles, WebMD Health News

Kids who like to be active can influence others to do the same, or at least that's what new research finds.

Children in social groups that included others who were physically active were six times more likely to be physically active themselves in a study published today in the journal Pediatrics.

CATCH Objectives

1. Have fun!
- Get those kids smiling, laughing and interacting positively with one another!

2. Have kids in Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA) for 50% of the time
- 15 minutes of MVPA out of 30 total minutes spent in physical activity, or 20 minutes out of 40 minutes.

3. Participate and Practice Practice Practice!
- The more kids practice skills, the more confident they will become.

4. Take it home
- You are creating lifelong love for physical activity. Encourage kids to take the games home!
- Also ask them what they do at home that is a healthy choice.
We'd love to hear from you!

June is always so bitter-sweet... the end of the school year means summer is here, but as for your after school program, it's coming to an end.  Enjoy this last week with your kids and be sure to encourage them to stay healthy and active this summer because you'll be checking in on them in the fall!

Please continue to send us your CATCH Kids Club stories, photos, tips, and tools!  We will share them with other CKC sites and post them on our website, Facebook page, or here in our monthly communication.  Contact information is below.

As always, let us know if you have any questions about implementing CATCH Kids Club at your site.  We're here to help, and want you to be successful!

Sincerely,
Laura
