From The Prayer Circle

The power of prayer lies in it's potential to change us.

God who journeys with us.

May we share our wealth

until our loads are lightened.

May we share our weakness

until we feel your pull.

May we share our tears

until our eyes are opened.

May we share our laughter

until our hearts are full. Amen.

How do Christians "Spring Clean?"

This week I am on a reading week so that I can bring new resources to sermons and programs at the church. One of the areas that I am very interested in is Christian meditation. I consider Christian meditation a "spring cleaning" for the soul; a spring that can last all year.  In this busy world in which we live, a time of meditation can help us refocus and rejuvenate. I invite you to experience Christian meditation first hand by trying a FREE guided Christian meditation http://www.joyofchristianmeditation.com. Learn to meditate and experience the healing joy of Christian meditation. Dr. Kukal has a wonderful article on why folks are reluctant to meditate. When you arrive at the website just click "FREE GUIDED IMAGERY" on the left. It only takes 7 minutes. I tried it with my family and it was really great!

Dr. Deborah Kukal is a licensed psychologist with a strong scientific foundation who has been teaching meditation in a hospital setting for more than 15 years. She has engaged patients from virtually every walk of life in the successful and rewarding practice of meditation.

Dr. Kukal's scripture based Christian meditations will nourish your physical health and enrich your emotional life, as well as deepening your intimacy with the Lord.

I am on a reading week May 17- 24 and I will be attending Toronto Conference in Orillia May 27- 30th. Remember May 29th is the Fifth Sunday potluck! Thanks to all who will provide leadership in worship while I am away.

Help Wanted:

Action Group Members

To everyone who is part of Westminster United Church...We would like your help!

Your Nominating Committee is recruiting new members for our church Action Groups. These are groups that meet just once per month to assist the church in its work.

We are recruiting people for:

  • The Church Executive, specifically a Secretary and a Chair-elect
  • Stewardship, with several sub-groups that oversee different components of church finances
  • Membership and Pastoral Care
  • Ministry and Personnel

Members of the Nominating Committee will be phoning everyone to ask about their interests. If you have questions of would like to join an Action Group, please contact Bob Borden (b.borden@bell.net, 519-940-0292) or Cholly Boland (bolands@rogers.com, 519-940-5530).

Photo Directory Coordinator

The Membership & Pastoral Care Action Group has undertaken to have a brand new Photo Directory produced for Westminster. It has been several years and it's time! Lifetouch Church Directories & Portraits is the company. M&PC have spoken with Gary Collins, our contact, and are delighted with the services they have to offer to make this a success. What we now need is a willing volunteer to assume the role of "Church Directory Co-Ordinator". This will be about a 4 month commitment, and will involve working closely with Gary who will guide you through the process. This organized 'willing volunteer' will be responsible for such things as promotion of the project, contacting members, scheduling appointments and assisting with layout. They will choose and oversee a team to assist them and will be the liaison between Gary and M&PC. Access to a computer and basic computer skills are needed, as online scheduling will be utilized. If this exciting role in the work of our church interests you, please see or call Anne Richardson at 519-941-4490.

THANKS!  Now..."Smile - You're on Candid Camera!"

Financial Summary - Operating Fund 2010-2011

First, a hearty thanks for the contributions to the Easter appeal.  We received $8,073 to May 8, which is well over last year's $2,919 and this year's budget of $7,000!

The usual status report for the Operating Fund shows Income and Expenses, and for the 10 months to April 30 we have a surplus of $789.  The immediate challenge is the cash flow in the chequing account, which was overdrawn by ($20,360) at Apr 30.  We need your help now.

If you can support your church with an extra donation to the Operating Fund, please write "Stewardship" on your envelope.  Thank you!!
