February 2010
Newsletter Subtitle Month Year
 Greetings!

We've had quite an exciting beginning this year in Sunday School.  With our average attendance being around the 30 mark we have gone back to having two classrooms for our 3 to 10 year olds.  We now have a 3 to 6 year old group that meets every Sunday in Room 5 and our 7 to 10 year olds have remained in the Auditorium.  With such a great increase in our numbers we are looking for helpers to come out and support our dedicated team of Sunday School teachers.  If you can help out for a Sunday here or there, please contact the church office or Sonja Wolter, CE Coordinator at sonja11@rogers.com.  No experience required!

We are also excited to currently have eight babies and toddlers registered for our Nursery and have been able to provide a supervised Nursery since the beginning of this year.  We have a few dedicated helpers but are looking for some adults who would like to help out.  Please contact the church office or Sonja Wolter, CE Coordinator at sonja11@rogers.com if you would like to be part of this exciting ministry with Christian Education.

If you have a child who is currently attending Sunday School regularly, please ensure that we have a completed registration form on file.  This helps us with our planning and budgeting!

Our Spring cleaning on February 20th has cleared the way for new space for our Sunday School.  The Nursery/Toddler room is now in Room 4 and the J.A.M.M. group of 11 to 13 year olds will now be meeting in the space where the old library was in the Auditorium.  Thanks to all who helped make this possible!!  A special thanks to Brianna who initiated the set up for our new Nursery space.  Cheers!

Don't forget!  Sunday's worship involves the children!!!
IN SUNDAY SCHOOL

February 28th will be a Music Sunday School with all children aged 3 to 10 years meeting in the Auditorium to enjoy music and activities with Tom and Marnie.

Family Service is on March 14th (March break) so no Sunday School or Supervised Nursery.

PARENTS' PORCH

There's Smart, and Then There's Smart

Some kids learn to read early, or are adept at math.  They bring home good grades and memorize easily.  But "school smart" is not the only kind of smart.

Kids are smart in several ways - and so are adults.  Word-smart kids like words and ways to use them.  Music-smart kids like rhythm and patterns in sound.  Logic-smart kids enjoy figuring things out and have fun with science and riddles.  Picture-smart kids love to look around and see all the interesting things in the world.

Body-smart kids are graceful and comfortable in their bodies.  People-smart kids love interacting with other people.  Self-smart kids understand themselves and their feelings.  Nature-smart kids love being outdoors and notice plants, animals, and rocks.

Sometimes kids who don't quite fit in the traditional school system think they're not smart.  But they are.  Smart comes in many shapes and sizes, and everyone is smart in several ways.  The various kinds of smarts work together, and no kind of smart is better than the others.  Make sure your kids know that.

Make sure your kids know that you value the kind of smarts they have - even if it's not the same kind of smarts you have.  Make sure your kids know that God created them and gave them gifts and personality.  He treasures them just the way they are.

"You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:13, 14)
