Greetings!
There has been an explosion in our Sunday School... no, there was no physical damage just lots of children coming to church, old friends, new faces; our attendance is up and this is wonderful! Over the summer a very well attended Vacation Bible School was held and many of our new faces were part of that outreach to the children of the community. Well done! With the wonderful turnout comes the need for teachers. The more we share the load, the less cumbersome it will be for only a few. Think about it. You volunteer at hockey, the gym club, soccer, musical and theatre events to support your child. Do not be intimidated by leading a Sunday School class. These children are craving for a lesson, some fun and community. Let us not disappoint them! God calls us though the teachings of Jesus to be disciples. Teaching Sunday School is one way that you can practice discipleship.
Come on, give it a try!

Your Christian Education Action Group is looking forward to keeping you informed. These newsletters will be sent out once a month to let you know what the children are up to. We have many exciting things planned.
As we look ahead to November, we will be asking children and adults if they are interested in being a part of our 2nd annual Santa Claus parade float. Children will also be creating a special Christmas craft with Tanya which will be displayed during "Come... Visit the Stable."
The Group is always looking for more volunteers. Please talk to someone on the team if you think you could help. In particular, we are looking for a couple of leaders... someone to play in the nursery, someone to lead our children who are in grades seven and eight, and someone to lead the youth group while Chris takes some time off.
The Nursery -- Parents who feel the need to be in the nursery... you will be able to hear what's happening upstairs. Tom & Lynne Smith have donated an intercom for this purpose. (Thank you Tom & Lynne!) As well, Mercedes Brown and Emily Manzerolle have teamed up and are willing to care for children in the nursery.
Tanya's also looking for bulletin cover art! Draw a picture in black and white (ONLY) and give it to Tanya or drop it in the office. Bulletin sponsorship is generally done by the parent(s) or grandparent(s) at a cost of $10. You can pick up your bulletin art sheet in the office or by seeing Tanya Ellacott. |
We welcome Marnie Worry to our group as she plans and executes Musical Sundays. The children will gather in the auditorium once a month and Marnie will lead them in fun songs of faith and a musical craft. |
CELEBRATIONS!
Happy belated birthday to Stephanie W. who celebrated in September. Happy birthday to Catherine A. and Emily H. who are celebrating in October.
Celebrating a birthday? Win a big game? Lose your first tooth? Have something else to share? Let us know so we can celebrate with you!

| PARENT'S PORCH
Moooom! Daaaaad! You groan because you know what's coming next. They expect you to arbitrate. Whatever you say, one child will gloat and the other will protest the injustice. Siblings fight for a lot of reasons. They may be competing for your attention -- and even negative attention from you is attention. They may be aware of differences between them --what they have, what they can do--and these differences become a source of friction. An older child may bellow when a young sibling invades the privacy of the older one. They may harass each other in constant power plays. What's a parent to do? First of all, remember that most sibling rivalry has nothing to do with poor parenting, so don't waste a lot of time wondering what you've done wrong that you've raised such combative children. Try not to get sucked into every dispute - especially if you think the dispute may be a misguided plea for your attention. Discourage tattling and be consistent in conveying the standards of behaviour you expect. However, don't turn your back completely. Kids usually will work out more than we give them credit for, but conflicts can get out of hand, and you need to be ready to step in when they do. Don't let someone get hurt. It's a phase, and it will pass. Often kids who squabbled the most are fiercely fond and loyal to each other as adults. "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves." (Romans 12:10) |

Need a minute?
As we are a society of busy families, we often find ourselves needing a minute here and a few minutes there. Here are some ideas to help you..
Pipe cleaners - great time can be spent in creating animals, collars (for Webkinz?), bracelets, necklaces, and so much more
Paper - Gramma and Grampa may enjoy a picture or letter in the mail as with other family/friends. Great time to create a bulletin cover.
Music - turn off the TV and let the kids dance around and get silly while you're making supper

| A Prayer |
|
Now, before I run to play, let me not forget to pray to God who kept me through the night and waked me with the morning light. Help me, Lord, to love thee more than I ever loved before, in my work and in my play be thou with me through the day. Amen. |
