James 1, 17-18
Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

Greetings!

Many thanks to Rev. Doyle Prier for leading worship this past Sunday. In addition to Rev. Doyle, Lyn Jelly joined Martin in a breathtaking rendition of Pachelbel's Canon for 4 hands on our marvelous baby grand piano. Lyn and Martin accompanied the Celebration Choir with soloist Joan Borden. Thanks to Bob and Joan Borden for donating the anthem in memory of Bob's Dad, "Hap".  Doyle will be joining us again for worship on May 18th and June 1st. We are so blessed to have such talented musicians in our midst.

Rev. Susan Howard from the Toronto Conference Office helped us to celebrate National Camping Sunday. Thanks to Lynne for your introductions.

Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to attend the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, lead prayer and a short Reflection at the Town Hall with others in the community, to mark the National Day of Mourning for those who have been injured or killed on the job. I spoke to a careers class at O.D.S.S., participated in a Toronto Conference Workshop on Stewardship and provided worship at one of our nursing homes.

In addition to hospital visits, this is the time of year that I join with families to conduct the spring burials of their loved ones and so my heart goes out to those who await this significant event.

Our Board will meet a week early this month. The meeting will take place on Monday May 12, in the Friendship room, as the Dufferin Music Festival will be holding their Gala Concert in the sanctuary that evening.

                The photo directories have arrived...

A Keeping in touch brochure will be distributed in mid-May outlining the events May-August.

I would like to extend a personal invitation to the congregation to celebrate with my family and I the anniversary of my 25th year as an ordained minister. This celebration will take place in the form of a worship service, followed by a reception on Saturday June 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Westminster. Anyone wishing to join the choir for this event is asked to attend choir practice on Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. for one hour. There will be a rehearsal on June 7 at 3:00 p.m. as well.

Over the last few years we have had excellent leadership on our stewardship action group. Bravo!  It is now time for someone else to take their turn at running our stewardship campaign for 2008-2009.We do not want to lose momentum!

Please speak to Rev. Sandra if you are interested in this very important part of the life of our church. This group with the help of the finance action group prepares a comprehensive mailing to all members and adherents outlining our ministry goals and the cost associated with our staffing and programs. Stewardship is about discovering how our money relates to our values and how generosity is an act of love. In these days of high gas prices we like to avoid the topic of money but the reality is that we need even more to talk about the realities of our financial situation.  This campaign is essential in helping us to prepare our budget for next year. We would like to pull together a group in the next few weeks to plan the program for the fall.

Welcome back to students returning from College or University!

Please do not forget the ham dinner tonight!!!

Tickets available at the door.

A little bird told me that there were or will be special birthdays for Maribelle Harding, Eunice Chippendale, Wally Storey, Tanya Ellacott, Joyce Winegar and Eleanor Jamieson Happy Birthday to all that celebrate in April and May.

"As comes a breath of spring

with light and mirth and song,

So does God's Spirit bring new life,

  Brave, free and strong...

Let us stay strong in the faith...

See you in church,

Rev. Sandra

Can you find the 18 hidden books of the Bible in this paragraph?  Answers to follow in the next newsletter...

I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible.  It was a lulu, kept people looking so hard for facts...and for others it was a revelation. Some were in a jam, especially since the names of the books were not capitalized.  The truth finally struck home to numbers of readers.  To others it was a real job.  We want it to be a most fascinating few moments for you.  Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot.  Others will require judges to help them.  I will quickly admit, it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there will be loud lamentations when it is found.  A little lady says she brews a cup of tea so she can concentrate better.  See how well you can compete.  Relax now for there really are sixteen names of books of the Bible in this paragraph.  If I chose another sentence or two, maybe you could post them at the water cooler.
