Letter From Matt
It's been a very interesting and challenging year for both of my families (The Flemings & The Passport Sailing Club).  Both families have navigated the financial shoals of an unusual year with a frugal yet positive mindset.  Both have continued to enjoy life's simple activities while not going overboard.  And somehow, both have become stronger through it all.

We do know that over the last year our members have increased their club participation at a level that I haven't seen for some time.  We've also seen our members more often arrive to the marina with stressed frowns on their faces only to leave the dock with smiles and an adjusted attitude, hopefully ready to take on the non-sailing world after just a short visit with mother nature and the canvas.

During this holiday season I hope and pray that our members take the time to really reflect on the simple yet important things that makes life fun and fulfilling ..... no, not sailing .... but our families.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All

The last race in the Fall series on Nov. 22nd was a winner in so many ways.  The wind, the racing and the Buford Boil afterward all made for a great afternoon.  Never mind that it was a balmy 50 degrees.

With winds over 15 knots, gusting to 25, the 3-person crews had a great day sailing.  The afternoon also served as a great opportunity to test out the cool weather foul weather gear --- some purchased the day before at the annual Gill clearance sale.

Winning the day with a 1st, 1st and 2nd finish was Steve D., Hans G. and Tom H. on West Dog. Close behind was Greg K., George A., Bill M., and Greg's guest on Great Dog, finishing 2nd , 2nd and 1st. Their 1st place finish was just 9 seconds ahead of West Dog.
George Dog, with Pete V., Angie B., and Don C., finished 2nd, 3rd and 3rd, just a minute behind overall winner West Dog in the 3rd race.   Bailey B., Kate K. and Cliff O., aboard Hot Dog finished the day overall in 4th having some challenges with the starts.

The conversation over the post-race dinner was its usual mix of storytelling, joke telling and sailing tips.

It's been another fun and thrill filled regatta season, along with the camaraderie that LSA is known for.  Yes, this is "the club."

WHAT'S NEXT?  Plan to join us in March

As we have done for the past years, LSA will host a free racing clinic (see "Clinics and Events" below).  If you've never raced, this is an ideal way to get started.  If you've raced before, this is an opportunity to refine your skills. And if you're experienced, this is an opportunity to become a skipper.  Sure, it's just for fun. ;-)

Penquin regatta artworkPenguin Regatta and Rum Tasting
Saturday, January 2nd, 10:00 am til 5pm (Yes... we said January !)

Yes .... we are INSANE to organize an all day, all lake race in January.  This race is for the hearty folks that enjoy excellent wind, long race courses and surviving the cold winter elements all while having fun.  (yeah right, fun).

This all day race will be governed by strict race rules without the typical shinanagains that seem to haunt our big races (ET Challenge, St Patty's Day, etc).  So bring your thickest long johns, heaviest foul weather gear, hottest thermos of hot chocolate and the toughest mindset.  Of course a hot dinner will be served after the race with awards to follow.

NOTE:  It's typically not as cold as you think; 40-50's

$ 20 per person for dinner and soft drinks.  BYOB / BYOR

Please call the dock for reservations, If you dare .... No wimps allowed. (770) 614-5724.

2 boats coming to lineRegatta & Race Clinic
Saturday, March 13th,
Classroom: 10am til 1pm.
On the water: 2pm til 5pm

Regardless of your level competitiveness and regardless of your sailing skill, the LSA regattas have proven year after year to be an ideal sailing experience and allround fun time.  Because everyone is welcomed, and the scoring system allows less experienced sailors to participate with past winners, the LSA regattas continue to have people return for more fun, friends and food.

The clinic is in 2  parts. In the classroom, we'll be sharing detailed rules and strategies of sail racing that is designed to get you informed and involved in The Passport Sailing Club's Spring Regatta Series.  This includes how not to hit another boat and more importantly, how to get ahead of another boat.

After a lunch break, we head to Big Creek. On the water, we'll be reinforcing this information with a real hands on sailing/racing complete with a race course and instructors on each boat.  You'll experience the tense starts, exhilerating upwind legs and relaxing downwide legs. And we keep the races very short so that you can do more than one.

If you've never raced, this is an ideal way to get started.
If you've raced before, this is an opportunity to refine your skills.
If you're experienced, this is an opportunity to become a skipper.

Don't miss this great opportunity to become race savy.

The price is FREE to our club members.  Sure, it's just for fun. ;-)
