Enough water to keep sailing
Shoreline 3 Sisters 0710 While there is new shoreline, there is plenty of places to sail

If you were to believe the local news media, then you would think that all of our boats are hard aground and leaning on their sides just stuck in the mud.  Well, the truth is we are 100% operational and our members are enjoying the fall breezes while sailing the well marked waters !!  Yes, the lake is down and the shore line is showing itself, but we still have plenty of water and wind to satisfy our sailing addictions.

head hanging over sternPlease don't let a little bad news from the Chicken Little's of the world ruin your fall activities.  Come on up to the lake and enjoy the gentle temperatures, stiff breezes and plenty of water.

As the skipper, you need only take the  same precautions about how avoding exposed terra firma, loonshit or obstacles.

As always,we do look forward to seeing everyone at the dock as the winds pick up.

10am: Penguin Regatta & Poker Run

The stories are true -- the names were changed to protect the disgraced.

Even though the management staff of LSA (Cindy) is still resolving "issues" from last year's race -- she has decided to proceed with another full throttle, no holds barred, 2007 Penguin Regatta & Poker Run !!!

Believe it or not -- Matt has been kept in the dark about this breech of company policy and with your help, he'll never find out about this "politically incorrect event" !!

Ssssshhhhhhh -- don't tell Matt.

The Penguin Regatta & Poker Run is an all day wacky race that encompasses the entire lake.  You will be asked to sail to several destinations and obtain unique evidence of your travels while collecting poker cards for various tasks and activities.  Exact details are confidential and a bit weird -- No, very weird !!

The race will be followed by a cookout at the dock with awards presented to the winners.

Dress in black & white if you dare. RSVP at 770-614-5724.

We'll also provide an early dinner. Cost is $15. BYOB.

3pm: Rum Tasting Party & Regatta Awards
Bruce in a resting position

Depending upon the weather, we'll meet at either the dock or classroom to evaluate the subtle and not-to-sutle differences of different rums.  The boquet; the taste, the after effects.  Sip 'em straight or try our recipes including Goombay Smash, Bushwackers, Rum Punch, Hot Buttered Rum or Dark n Stormy.  We'll provide juices and mixers, etc.  You bring a bottle. RSVP at 770-614-5724.

During the Rum Tasting, trophies for the Spring and Fall regattas will be awarded.

Early dinner will be provided.  Cost of $15 covers one or both events. BYOB.
Regatta Update
OK, so we're not really competitive
Yeah, right..  So to put a spin on it, here's recognition for those who sailed well over the past couple of weeks.  The fact that they won is inconsequential.  (Sure.)

With winds light on Sat., 9/22 for the first race and steady by the end of the day, Ed, Karl and Kathleen (on West Dog) and Bill McC, Kevin and Kurt (on Connie May) finished the day in a tie, each with 7 points.  West Dog placed 4th, 1st and 2nd while Connie May finished 1st, 5th and 1st.  Ann and Todd (on Ella J) deserve recognition for finishing third overall with 10 pts ( 2nd, 4th and 4th finishes out of 7 boats).

The winds were fun on Sun, 9/30, blowing about 9 knots with the random 90 degree windshift for 2 minutes, and then shifting back.  Kudos to Bob, Jason, Leah and Morven on West Dog who finished the day with 5 points, finishing 1st, 2nd and 2nd.  Natasha, newbie crew members Angie and Christopher along with Bill McC and Hal finished with 7 points (2nd, 3rd and 3rd).    While Hot Dog, with Ann, Andrew, Thomas and Todd and George Dog with Alan, Chuck, Kevin and Russell each finished 9 points, it should be noted that boats earned a 1st place finish.

In the first race, West Dog finished just 11 seconds ahead of Natasha, which was only 32 seconds ahead of George Dog.  In the second race, won by George Dog, West Dog and Natasha finished just 22 seconds apart.  And in the final race, Hot Dog beat West Dog by only 10 seconds.  Needless to say, it was a fun day on the lake, followed by fun, food and drink at the dock's post-race "activities."

The winds were favorable on Sat, 10/20, so there were 4 races for 7 boats.  Kurt and Caroline sailed near flawlessly to win the day, finishing 1,2,1,1.  Mark B, Mike Mand Bill McC came in second, scoring 2,1,3,4.  Creating a bit of controversy during the racing, Alan, Jason and Kathleen took third for the day with a solid performance, scoring 4,3,2,2.

Thanks to Rich and Peggy for serving as race committee on 9/22 and Kurt, Connie and Charles for serving as race committee on 9/30.  And thanks to Glenn Simons and Steve Darsie handled RC for the four races 10/20.

Looking forward to seeing you on the course or on the committee boat on Sat, 11/17 and then for the awards ceremony on 12/01 at 3pm (after the Penguin Regatta).
