FULLERTON COLLEGE PARTICIPATING IN CAMPUS-WIDE EVACUATION AS PART OF THE GREAT SHAKEOUT

On Thursday, October 18 at 10:18 am, Fullerton College will again be participating in The Great Shakeout, California's state-wide earthquake drill! This drill serves as a reminder that everyone should always be prepared for the "Big One," which could happen at any time.
Faculty who have class at 10:18 am are asked to have their students, "Drop, Cover, and Hold On!" The college will then participate in a campus-wide evacuation exercise. Campus Safety will provide each division and department with evacuation instructions.

FULLERTON COLLEGE ART GALLERY PRESENTS FAITH AND PRIVATE DEVOTION: RETABLOS, SANTOS, AND ANIMAS SOLAS FROM THE STEARNS COLLECTION
|
The Fullerton College Art Gallery proudly presents selections from the Daniel and Cathy Stearns collection of Mexican retablos, santos and ánimas solas. For the first time, these unique paintings and sculptures will leave the Stearns residence and introduce our community to the rich pantheon of Catholic saints. These works are filled with many fascinating stories and personages, such as Santa Eduviges, the barefooted saint from Poland who was evoked by couples with marital problems; or San Ysidro, a poor Spanish farmer who was helped by an angel to cultivate his fields.
The exhibition opens this Thursday, October 11 and runs through Wednesday, November 7 in the Fullerton Art Gallery. An opening reception takes place this Wednesday, October 10 from 5 pm - 7 pm.

JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS $30,000 ANNUALLY TO TRANSFER STUDENTS
|
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students with financial need as they transfer to and complete their bachelor's degrees at the nation's top four-year colleges and universities. The Foundation selects up to 60 community college transfer students each year and awards each scholar up to $30,000 annually. To qualify, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and substantial unmet financial need.
Fullerton College students are encouraged to apply for the scholarship and must complete the process online by Wednesday, November 21. The application form may be found at http://www.jkcf.org/scholarships.

CADENA CULTURAL HOSTING LGBT STUDENT FORUM

The Cadena-Transfer Center is hosting a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Students Forum this afternoon (Monday, October 8) at 3 pm in room 225. All LGBT students are invited to attend and discuss issues relevant to student life, academic success, and networking. Panelists will include students from Fullerton College, Cypress College, CSU Fullerton, and UC Irvine.

CAMPUS HOLIDAY PARTY SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 4

The Fullerton College Holiday Party will take place on Tuesday, December 4 from 2 pm - 4 pm in the Large College Center Conference Room. A separate party will take place for the night staff at 10 pm in the Old Staff Dining Room.
A planning committee is currently being formed. The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 16 at 1 pm in PCR-A. Those interested are asked to email Shannon Matthews at smatthews@fullcoll.edu or Mary Molina at mmolina@fullcoll.edu.

DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES' SEE'S CANDY FUNDRAISER RAISES MONEY FOR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

It is once again time for the Disability Support Services' annual See's Candy Fundraiser. The funds raised directly support scholarships for students with disabilities at Fullerton College. The deadline for orders is Monday, November 5 and order forms are available in the mailroom and in room 842. We can also e-mail them by request. Please return completed order forms to DSS. Former Fullerton College student Ioane Gauta, now a student-athlete at Washington State, was recently quoted in the Kitsap Sun newspaper as saying the Fullerton College INCITE program helped him bring up his grades: "Gauta is grateful for the academic tutoring he received while playing two years near home at Fullerton College."

WOMEN'S WATER POLO: The Hornets won their third tourney of the season over the weekend sweeping four of their opponents to take the Ventura College Tournament. Opening the tournament on Friday against Santa Monica College, FC nearly doubled up on the Corsairs 15-8. In game two the Hornets took down Chaffey College 13-7. On Saturday, Fullerton took on their district rival in Cypress College beating the Chargers 13-6. In the championship game, FC made quick work of their host Ventura College 18-5 to win the tourney title. Up Next: The Hornets (16-3, 3-1) have a big match-up as they will host powerhouse Riverside College on Wednesday, October 10. Game time is 4 pm.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The Hornets hosted Saddleback College Friday night breaking a 5-game losing streak by beating the Gauchos 3-1: 17-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-19. Up Next: The Hornets (5-5, 1-2) travels to Riverside College on Wednesday, October 10. Game time is 6 pm.
CROSS COUNTRY: Three members of the Fullerton College cross country team were selected to the Academic All-State Cross Country Team. FC's own Michelle Gibbons (Sophomore, Esperanza HS), Lauren Sinatra (Sophomore, Esperanza HS), and Rafael Figueroa (Sophomore, Esperanza HS) made the team.
FOOTBALL: On the road, the Hornets did not have enough in the tank to bring down the Tigers of Riverside College as they fell Saturday night 45-28. FC lost a non-conference game to a very talented Riverside College football team that came out with a balanced attack. Up Next: Fullerton (2-3 overall, 1-0 conference) will host Saddleback College at Fullerton Municipal Stadium for a conference match-up on Saturday, October 13. Kickoff is 6 pm.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Hornets were able to mark one on the won column on Friday beating Mt. San Jacinto College 5-4 on the road in a non-conference game. Up Next: FC (3-8-1, 1-5-1) will hit the road again on Tuesday, October 9th to take on upstart Norco College for the first time ever in a conference match-up. Game time is 3 pm.
WOMEN'S GOLF: Last week, FC hosted a 3-way golf tournament at Diamond Bar Golf Course battling temperatures of 102 degrees. All 3 teams, including the Hornets scored very high (IVC 336, Saddleback 340, Fullerton 357). On Monday, FC hosted a 4-way tournament at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills, again battling temperatures up to 108 degrees. Overall scores were better (IVC 308, Saddleback 333, Fullerton 354 and Cuyamaca 393). Wednesday, the Hornets competed in a 3-way at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course in Mission Viejo. Temperatures were much better, and overall scores were better (IVC 302, Saddleback 337 and Fullerton 352.
