LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS HOSTING NATIONAL REGISTER TO VOTE DAY ON CAMPUS

This Tuesday, September 25 is National Register to Vote Day. In honor of the day, the League of Women Voters of North Orange County is working through a grant-funded partnership to increase voter registration in advance of November's local, state, and national elections.
"Registration is the first step for being an informed voter," said Kay Bruce, a former Cypress College dean, who is facilitating the grant for the League of Women Voters. "This is a chance for people to be heard."
The registration event will take place between 10 am - 1 pm between the 200 and 400 buildings.
The League is also sponsoring a Fullerton City Council candidates' forum tonight at 6:30 pm. It will be held in the Fullerton City Council Chambers.
Bruce stressed that the LWV offers "no advocacy, just nonpartisan information."

LATINO STUDENT FORUM TAKES PLACE THIS THURSDAY
|
The Cadena-Transfer Center is hosting a Latino Student Forum this Thursday, September 27 at 11:45 am in room 226. The forum is designed to connect Latino students with support networks available at Fullerton College and the surrounding community. Topics will include students clubs, scholarships, parental issues, and other topics brought up by participants. A panel of current college students and university representatives will ensure the event is interactive. No RSVP is needed

STUDY ABROAD SPRING 2013: ROME, ITALY

The Study Abroad Program is now accepting applications for its Spring 2013 Program in Rome, Italy. Informational meetings for interested students are scheduled for Thursday, September 27, at 7 pm in Fullerton College room 229 and Thursday, October 4 at 7 pm in Cypress College CC Complex room 419.

HEALTH SERVICES OFFERING FLU VACCINE THIS WEEK
|
Health Services is offering the flu vaccine this Wednesday, September 26 from 1 pm - 5 pm. No appointment is necessary and the vaccine is free of charge for students and $20 for current faculty and staff. This year's flu vaccine protects against seasonal flu, as well as, H1N1. At risk for the flu are children younger than five, but especially children younger than two, adults 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain medical conditions.

FULLERTON COLLEGE HOSTS 18 DEBATE TEAMS AT FALL TOURNAMENT

Fullerton College hosted its largest debate tournament ever Friday, September 21. Eighteen teams from CSUF, Cal Baptist, Vanguard, Irvine Valley, and Fullerton competed, debating the topic of whether the United States should intervene in Syria.
CSUF's debaters won with a 3-0 record, but Fullerton College's Don Lundy and Gabael Botello, and Ian Kinsey and Sandesh Potla were runners-up with a 2-1 record. Cal Baptist debaters took the top speaker award, and Fullerton's Ryan Cannon captured 3rd speaker in his first tournament.
Fullerton College next competes at the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association Fall Warm-up Tournament September 28 & 29 at El Camino College. Doug Kresse coaches the team from Fullerton College.

FULLERTON COLLEGE FOUNDATION PREPARING FOR FIFTH ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST

The Fullerton College Foundation is holding its Fifth Annual Oktoberfest on Sunday, October 27, from 12 noon - 5 pm in the Fullerton College Sculpture Garden. The Lazybonz Band and costumed monsters will highlight this year's event with the proceeds going to support Fullerton College Foundation's General Scholarship Fund.
The event is free with food and drink tickets available for purchase. Bootleggers Brewery will be providing the beer.

LIVE WIRE LITERARY JOURNAL DEBUTS IN FALL 2013
|
The Fullerton College Centennial is sponsoring the Live Wire Literary Journal. The journal will debut in fall 2013 and will feature prose and poetry from students, faculty, alumni, and local residents. The deadline for submission is Saturday, December 15.
Submissions are limited to three poems per author and prose is limited to 4,000 words maximum. Submissions may be emailed to livewire@fullcoll.edu. For more information visit www.fullertoncollegecentennial.com.

Bruce Henderson, English Department Faculty, will deliver a paper on Native American influences on the writings of Thoreau at the Community College Humanities Association Western Regional meeting in Portland. He has also been appointed as Regional Co-Director of ECCTYC (English Council of California Two-Years Colleges) for the South Los Angeles/Orange County area.
On Saturday, September 15, 31 Puente students, along with co-coordinators, Elias Dominguez and Kim Orlijan, attended the Annual Puente Project Motivational/Leadership Conference at UC San Diego. Keynote speaker and author Michelle Serros inspired students with her stories that led to her success as a writer. Students also attended UC/CSU workshops and career related workshops.

Enrollment at California Community Colleges grew 44% from 1995-96 to 2009-10, yet per-student funding in 2009-10 (adjusted for inflation) was lower than it was in 1995-96. From fall 2008 to fall 2011, course sections were reduced by 18.6% due to these funding reductions (noncredit courses saw an even bigger decrease of 34.7%).

FOOTBALL: The Hornets opened up conference play with a much needed road win against Golden West College Saturday night dismantling the Rustlers 48-14. With the win, the Hornets even up their record at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference. Up Next: FC has a Bye next Saturday, September 29th, but will resume play on Saturday, October 6 at Riverside College. Kickoff is 6 pm.
WOMEN'S WATER POLO: After falling to Golden West College on Tuesday 16-10, the Hornets picked it back up by winning the Mt. SAC Tournament over the weekend. On Friday, FC beat Rio Hondo College 21-3 and Palomar College 14-7. On Saturday, Fullerton beat L.A. Valley College 15-6 and Long Beach City College 9-5. Up Next: The Hornets travel to Saddleback College on Wednesday, September 26. Game time is 4 pm. WOMEN'S GOLF: The FC women's golf team tallied their lowest team score at Monday's 4-Way Orange Empire Conference golf match. Up Next: FC will host Irvine Valley and Saddleback Colleges today at the Diamond Bar Golf Club at 11 am. WOMEN'S SOCCER: Fullerton lost a tough one on Friday at Saddleback College 2-1.
