NEW TRANSFER DEGREES GUARANTEE CSU ADMISSION

The Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440 - Padilla), signed into legislation on September 29, 2010, requires California community colleges to grant an associate degree for transfer to a student once a student has met specified general education and major requirements for the degree. Upon completion of the associate degree, the student is eligible for transfer with junior standing into the California State University (CSU) system.

Students are given guaranteed admission into the CSU system, and further are given priority consideration when applying to a particular program that is similar to the student's community college major. The law prohibits the CSU from requiring a transferring student to repeat courses similar to those taken at the community college that counted toward their associate degree for transfer.  Fullerton College now offers 16 transfer degrees, which may be found here.

Only students completing a transfer degree will be admitted to the CSU system this Spring 2013. In order to be eligible, students must file an application to graduate no later than Friday, September  7.

FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP

FOOTBALL: The Hornets hosted Long Beach City College at Fullerton Field on Saturday night winning their season opener 52-21. Up Next: The Hornets (1-0) will host Cerritos College this Saturday, September 8 at Fullerton Stadium. Game time is at 1 pm.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: After falling 8-0 to San Bernardino Valley College last Tuesday, the Lady Hornets pulled off their first win of the season on Friday beating College of the Canyons 2-0. Up Next: FC (1-1 overall) will host Moorpark College today at 4 pm.

Fascinating Fact ...

Emergency numbers differ from country to country. While 911 was eventually adopted as the standard number in the United States and Canada, in Europe you'll need to dial 112, although 999 also works in the UK, where there's been an emergency number system since the 1930s.

In contrast, 911 was not official until the late '60s, when it was first known as "nine-eleven," and then later changed to "nine-one-one" to avoid confusion with people wasting precious time looking for the "11" button.

Prior to the one-number system, you'd call the operator to summon the correct emergency service, although in the States some fire departments could be reached by dialling "3-4-7-3" -- which spells "FIRE.
