One of the many steps we are taking in
our outreach program!

WA Home Page Header GraphicOUTREACH!

We are focusing on Outreach to all our communities so we can attract more people to our program and help them learn a better way of living. A lot of people don't know about our fellowship - even members in other 12 step programs.

We think the most successful way we can get the word out is to increase our focus on a grass roots movement in our fellowship. This has been very successful in other 12 step programs. We want to empower each individual W.A.  group to work in their own communities by offering suggestions and tips that work to attract more members to our fellowship.

Our 11th Tradition: "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films". We need to keep this in mind when we are "speading the word". However it is important to note - we have to tell people that we are "out there". Other 12 step programs have been very successful in attracting more members to their fellowship and helping more people, by using free (and sometimes paid) public announcements in newspapers, cable TV or regular TV.

Below are some useful suggestions we have. If each person in your group takes one small job, it is much easier and can really make a dramatic impact!
Not only does this help us reach people who need our wonderful fellowship and 12 step recovery program, but it helps us in having more 12 steps opportunities to grow spiritually and ultimately have a larger list of meetings to attend in our own communities!
  • If your meeting place includes other Twelve Step Fellowships, place a flyer on the bulletin board or other common area. Email flyers to other recovering people so they can take flyers to their meeting place as well to spread the word.

  • Distribute W.A. pamhlets and flyers about our fellowship and your meeting at locations where other Twelve Step Fellowships are meeting. Many of these fellowships don't know we even exist and many of their members are potential candidates for the W.A. fellowship!

  • If you meet at a house of worship contact the administrator and ask if your meeting time can be included in their weekly bulletins and/or newsletters.

  • Inform pastors in local churches and therapists in the nearby area of our fellowship and your meetings.

  • Try to get the W.A Book of Recovery into the libraries in your area.

  • Contact the local newspapers in your area and let them know about your meeting. Ask them to put it in the announcement section by the classifieds, (this is FREE).

WE NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU!

We want to here from you about what you and your group are doing in your area and what is working to spread the word and attract more people we can help. Please submit articles, suggestions and tips to [email protected]. We need everyone's help.

We want to help you grow the fellowship in your area and will be happy to support you in any way we can! Contact us is you need help or have any questions!

Past World Conference Fall of 2008
What a fantastic experience the 2008 conference was for all who attended! The conference was held in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. We had workshops, meetings and played a hysterical game of "What's My Line" - lots of laughs. We hung out at the beach (the Jersey Shore was so beautiful) and dove into the ocean.

Attending our W.A. meetings are imperative to our recovery program, nothing can replace that, but going to a world conference gives you extra time for more fellowship and fun! Seeing "the bigger picture" is a great feeling and you can make some excellent connections, new friends and even get a sponsor. We encourage you to attend the upcoming 2009 conference in the fall, this is not something to miss!! It is something special to spend that time with a group of people that you can really relate to when we live in this crazy work addicted culture. :)

A main topic of discussion at the conference was Outreach. A lot of great ideas were discussed about how we can inform others that we are out here and attract more individuals that need the help to our program and fellowship.
